backup via itunes?

will the data from the app be backed up with my iphone backup? if i need to restore my phone will my collection still be there?

I believe so. Every I did a restore, every app kept it's data.

The first Apple backup after syncing DVDP for iOS took quite a bit longer than the second backup, so I guess, and it seems logical, that yes all data is backupped during the Apple backup during syncing with iTunes...

If you install the App, then sync to iTunes before you sync your DVDP data you can look at your iDevice in ITunes under the Apps tab. You will see that the size of the App is around 4mb.
Once you sync down your DVDP data from yor PC if you check again you will see the App size as reported in iTunes will be much larger. How large depends on the size of your database.
What that means is that the database is presumably included as part of the App when you sync to iTunes. Thus if you were to do a restore from iTunes the database should be included in the restore.
Of course, I haven't actually tried it to confirm
