In the PC start menu find the RUN icon, open it up and in the data entry box type CMD, this will open a DOS prompt window. At the cursor type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" where the x's are replaced with the IP of the iPad. Also remember that the laptop and the iPad must be in the same range, the address segments MUST be the same except the last segment EG laptop 192.168.000.002  iPad 192.168.000.003 if they do not match they will not be able to talk to one another.

The address in the desktop version needs to be the same in the iPad configuration window in the app (not the same as the IP of the iPad itself) including the port, personally I never set a password in the desktop because I am the only one using the program and it is on my internal network, so as far as I am concerned it's just another thing that can go wrong. I left the port at the default. Update that and see if you can connect.

BTW I was never able to get it to work using the PC name in the app, but the IP worked fine.

I was just looking over your last post again and noticed you said the IP's were different, did you go into the iPad settings in WiFi and allow the iPad to join the hotel network? If you do that it should trgger the DHCP server in the hotel router to assign you a new compatable IP

O.K. I am on my home network now and still unable to connect.  I do notice that my iPad under network connections shows a different number than the one that reads at the bottom of DVDProfiler on my laptop.

Hey

The iPad will have an address on your network also that belongs to "it", the laptop should show its own address and the last segment should be different and the first three segments the same for both devices. In the app however the information that you have set up for updating the database should be the same as the information on the bottom of the frame of the laptop. Remember they are trying to talk to each other.

Yes the DVDProfiler under tools option sharing matches what I have on the iPad DVDProfiler, I have used the same ip address that I read at the bottom of the DVDProfiler plus the default port and "Unable To Connect" is all I get.  I have tried port 80 and 8080, antivirus off firewall off and nothing.

SOLVED ! ! !

I just figured out that my laptop is linked to a wifi router that is dasiy chained from the main wifi router.
2 different wifi routers different passwords in the same home.  When I linked up to the main router on both the laptop and ipad everything linked up, however if I link them both to the secondary wifi router(preferrred way) it will not hand shake.

I am glad I got it to work, but if anybody has a tip and getting it to link up to the second wifi in the chain I am all ears.

Thanks for all the help guys!!!

GREAT!!!

Is it possible to get both routers on the same password, at least that should make life a little easier for you. Or when you move the iPad from one router to another you should set up two different networks in the iPad so that you can select the one you want and each one can have a different password

I prefer it on different passwords, it actually works better for me in general.
The ipad & iphone gets confused if it see's to good open wifi signals sometimes
so I only have one of the wifi routers in its memory.

I have still not yet figured out how to get both the laptop and the ipad to talk
to each other with DVD Profier via the daisy chained router.

I am thinking its probably an IP address issue, but have yet to figure this out.

I'm guessing here but I think that unless you have two different Wi-fi network setups in the iPad with the two different passwords the pad will only be able to connect to the one it can uncrypt.....
