| Posted: | | | | Hi everyone,
I just bought a Pioneer VSX-1021 receiver and would like to use it with my Harmony 890 remote but without the IR blasters.
Instead I would like to use the IR in & out sockets on the back of the receiver and on the back of my Oppo BDP-83 to have something like this :
Harmony RF Extender IR out ---> VSX-1021 IR in / VSX IR out ---> Oppo IR in.
I would like to know what kind of cables to use between the RF extender and the VSX, and between the VSX and the Oppo. Is it Mono-Mono, Mono-Stereo or Stereo-Stereo jack cables?
Thanks for your help. | | | Certainty of death... Small chance of success... What are we waiting for ?! |

| Posted: | | | | Search Google for wired IR connection to AV receiver. You will get lots of info, diagrams, etc.
Search for this post on avsforum,
"The IR jacks on the -93 are different than the -83. The -83 has a 3-wire with a hot tip and requires a "stereo to mono" adapter cable to interface with most IR distributions systems. The -93 has a standard mono jack with no power and does not need the adapter cable.
The -93's front sensor is disabled when you use the jack, the -83's is not."
Sorry I lost the link in my cut/paste process, but you should be able to find it. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

For the HM-31 and the DV-983H we are using a 3.5mm head which includes a tip, ring, and sleeve (<=||=||=|). The tip is a 5v signal, the Ring is the IR signal, and the sleeve is the ground. Most standard 3.5mm cables are just the tip and the sleeve (<=||=|). With a standard 3.5mm cable the ground signal is not present, which prevents the signal from being processed correctly. You will need a 3.5mm cable at at one end has the tip, ring and sleeve and at the other end has the tip and sleeve only.
We can supply a 1m cable for $2.00 shipped.

I understand that you want to know the size of cable you need to use. I am going to do my best to help you.
Although we don't support the direct connection of the RF extender to the device you can do this with a Mono 1/8" cable

So for the BDP-83 I need a special cable but for everything else it's mono to mono 1/8" jack. | | | Certainty of death... Small chance of success... What are we waiting for ?! | | | Last edited: by Frodonf |

So for the BDP-83 I need a special cable but for everything else it's mono to mono 1/8" jack. Funny, I read the Oppo email exactly the opposite. They say the DV-983H has a stereo jack. If you plug in a mono to mono cable, The DV-983H will not see the IR signal coming in, and its +5V will be sent backwards to the sending device. Did I misunderstand it? If I were you, I would spring for the $2. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

If I were you, I would spring for the $2. You're right about the DV-983H. In another e-mail, they told me that the IR in & out of the DV-983H is the same in the BDP-83. So they both need a special stereo-mono cable to get/send proper IR signal. But for other devices (including the BDP-93), it's usually mono-mono. And the 2$ is already in Oppo's pocket | | | Certainty of death... Small chance of success... What are we waiting for ?! | | | Last edited: by Frodonf |
