I'm soon going to digitize all our old family tapes, so would like some suggestions.

I bought a digital8 camera that plays the older hi8/video8 formats. I also have ADVC 55, that can convert analog signal to digital. I have a PC program that can record the digital input. So;

Should i let the camcorder do the transfer to digital, or would it be better to use the ADVC 55?
When i get the files digitized, I'll need to burn them as DVD video. Anyone know what software to use for this? I don't really need menus or anything like that.

Not sure about the hardware side of your problem...but in the past I used a programme called
ConvertXtoDVD.

Here's a snippet from the programme read me file:-

ConvertXtoDVD was formely known as DivxToDVD

ConvertXtoDVD converts and burns your internet movie files to a compatible DVD.

ConvertXtoDVD is a 1 click solution to convert your movie files to a compatible DVD playable on any home DVD player.

ConvertXtoDVD supports most popular format such Divx, Xvid, MOV, VOB, Mpeg, Mpeg4, AVI, WMV, DV and stream formats.
It converts your single files into a compliant DVD Video set of files and burns it on a DVD media.

The aspect ratio can be automatically selected or forced to a specific format. The program works for NTSC and PAL video formats and creates chapters automatically. Multiple audio tracks are supported. The version 2 uses a completely rewritten interface with subtitles support and a lot of new settings.

ConvertXtoDVD, I'll also recommend, which is very good for quickly burning video to DVD.

Personally, I'd just use a digital 8 camera. This will make a huge file, but it's very low loss. You can then further convert it to whatever format you need.
