from my earlier post...

Mediadogg,

I assume this error is coming from your plugin... it happens every once in a while and no idea why, the message reads:

TITLE is "dvdpro.exe - No Disk"

BIG X .... "there is no disk in the drive.  Please insert a disk into drive Z:"

drive Z is a virtual drive, the message happens soon after initiating your plugin, i.e. playing a movie located on my pc

also cannot seem to close the error window either, i have cancel, try again, and continue, attempting to close and even taskkill doesn't work.

this error is not repeatable as it just happens once in a while, same movie will work fine second time a round after restarting dvdprofiler

thanks bud!

I will need to have all the details of what you are doing. That message is not being generated by LoadDVD, but rather by a program that is called as a result of attempting to play a disc in the virtual drive. How is the drive set up? How have you set up LoadDVD to work? What program association do you have set up for the virtual drive? What drive letter does DVD Profiler look at? Keep in mind that I know nothing about your system, how it is set up and what you are trying to do, so I only know what you tell me, and the quality of my debugging is directly related to having accurate information. Also, are you using LoadDVD or LoadDVD Pro - which version? Please post the details in the LoadDVD thread in the Plugins Forum.

This problem seems to happen about 5% of the time.  When trying to kill the process I use the following...

taskkill /f /im csrss.exe

and then it tells me it cannot terminate because this is a critical system process and there are 2 PID associated with it.

I will try and answer as best as I can.

How is the drive setup up?....  Using Slysoft Virtual Clone Drive.

How have you set up LoadDVD to work?....  I've greatly edited your RS232.bat and playfromdisk.bat files.  In this case loaddvd calls the modified playfromdisk.bat file.  In this file we find the correct .iso file.  From there another custom .bat file gets called which executes commands to my receiver, TV, and JRiver Media Center.  So essentially all we are doing with your playfromdisk file is loading the proper movie into the virtual disk drive.

What program association do you have set up for the virtual drive?..... not sure what you mean?

What drive letter does DVD Profiler look at?... DVD profiler itself doesn't look at any drive letter to my knowledge.  The playfromdisk.bat file is what determines that, correct?  In this case I have the virtual drive established which is Z:.

Also, are you using LoadDVD or LoadDVD Pro - which version?.... LoadDVD

My own question... What are the 3 options listed under Tools - Automation for?

Seems sophisticated. I wonder, with all the software components involved how you "assumed" that the message was coming from LoadDVD? Without seeing your scripts, I wouldn't have a clue where that message was coming from. I mean, you could be calling any or every program in your network - no way for me to know. You might want to Google csrss.exe.

"What program association do you have set up for the virtual drive?..... not sure what you mean?" - I mean what program starts up automatically when an ISO is loaded into the virtual drive? Depending on the timing, this may conflict with another program that is trying to access the movie.

"What drive letter does DVD Profiler look at?... DVD profiler itself doesn't look at any drive letter to my knowledge.  The playfromdisk.bat file is what determines that, correct? " - No, playfromdisk.bat is your own script. Nobody knows what is in it but you. DVD Profiler options are set in the Tools \ Options panel, and you can set the drive letter in there. It is best for it to be set to "none" if it isn't already.

The LoadDVD Automation is part of the a/v Automation System.

I assumed it was coming from your plugin due to the fact the title of the error window says dvdpro.exe.

Now that I think I understand what you mean regarding driver letter... it's set to "none" and always has been.

No program starts up automatically when a new .iso image is loaded in the virtual drive, reason being is because of exactly what you mentioned about timing.

How can playfromdisk not be one of your files when it clearly shows up in the directory that's created when your plugin is installed?  Granted I've been tweaking this thing for a couple years now but your plugin does look for this file when "location" box in personal section has the word "play/s" in it.  It's been that way from day one.

I've since turned off the automation stuff to see if that resolves the issue.  So far so good but will go ahead and ask now.... is there a setting to keep this from coming back on after a restart?  It takes long enough as it is now to bring up the main program and would hate to half to complicate matters running an additional autohotkey script to turn off every restart.

Thanks for your support!

Well there may be a terminology issue here. In fact dvdpro.exe is the DVD Profile main program. Of course, you are experiencing the problem in the context of using that program within MS Windows, and then my plugin on top of that, and all the programs that your script calls. All of that should need not be said ...

In debugging, a programmer needs to figure which of those elements is failing and why. If you want me to agree that it is coming 'from loadvd,' OK but that solves nothing.

The playfromdisk.bat is course used by loaddvd. That's not what I meant. I ship a sample script that does nothing. The user modifies it. Anything can be in there. You can call any program, and you mentioned some of them. I cannot know what is in there, nor can I take responsibility for what they do. The only program message you mentioned came from a windows program, csrss.exe. It is unrealistic for you to think that I can remotely debug an issue such as this, having no clue what is your scripts. Most people share them with me when asking for my help.

You said the issue happens only 5% of the time. Before jumping to the conclusion that turning off automation solves, you need to wait awhile. I don't know of any reason that it would.

Hey dogg,

One of the problems with forums and emails is it can be easy to take things the wrong way so I will say this in case....  I respect your programming skills, I am grateful for your plugin and your availability on this forum, I'm not saying I know for sure it's your plugin causing the problem, I'm just looking for answers, I don't think I've worded things badly here but maybe I have.  In any event, here's more info:

1. I ran about 50 more movies last night after turning off the automation thing and never had the problem so I'm encouraged.

2. again, can you tell me if there is a way to turn this functionality off entirely?

3. although the error windows had dvdpro.exe in the title, I investigated the process this window was using and found it to be csrss.exe.  That's all I know about the error other than it happens after trying to play a movie.

thanks.

You know I totally understand your point. Thanks for the clarification. Same thing has happened to me, when I have been in the role of user of other software. No worries.

You have turned off automation completely. it should stay that way. Let me know if it doesn't. That is a simple thing to fix, and I did intend for the switch to "stick" across reboots, etc.

I asked you to Google "csrss.exe." I did. It might helps to get additional information - as I said, since I don;t know what programs you are calling in your script ...

Here is a bet I would make: if you make a temporary change to your scripts so that they do nothing but exit immediately, I'm willing to bet that you will never see the error again, regardless of whether AUtomation is Off or On. That will tell us definitively whether the message is being caused by something in DVDPro / LoadDVD, or something outside of them.

If you invest in this simple test, you could convince me to continue to worry about this issue. otherwise there is not much else I can do, given the limited information I have about what is in your scripts.

I'm running 2.08 which doesn't have the automation setting.  Haven't had an issue since and have been pushing hard so looks like we're good for now.

2.08 also allows me to easily automate selecting disks in sets by using autohotkey and sending 1,2,3, etc.

thanks for all your help.

Well I'm glad you're good for now. As for me I am still left with the mystery. All my efforts are being built on the latest version, so it behoves me to fix bugs rather than ignore. But so be it - I'll have to wait until either I hit the error or somebody else does, who is willing to help me by running the tests that I request and supplying the diagnostic info.
