What's the best way to contribute images? For new profiles I submit, typically what I've been doing to is scanning at 600dpi, which makes for an very large image about 4200pixel tall for a DVD sleeve, then I resize it to 700pixels tall as that seems to be the most common size in the DVD Profiler cache folder, separate it in to front and back and submit that as it saves me a lot of time in submitting ginormous scans over my slow Internet connection. The question is, what size should I make the image I submit?

The current maximum size (see this debate discussing larger images) is 500 pixels wide and 700 pixels high.

If your contributed image exceeds these boundaries, it will be resized (and further compressed) by the server software.

The best way to retain a good quality image is to scan it to a lossless format type like BMP.

Then do all the cleaning up and cutting. Then resize the image to the boundaries above.

Then (you need to do this part only once) edit the profile, switch to Cover Scans and select File -> Adjust Compression. There you set it to 100%.

Now you select your scans via the File -> Open menu. DVDP will automatically convert your BMP to JPEG automatically.

And since you've respected the boundaries, your image will not be touched again upon contribution.

Thanks, essentially the same as what I was doing, except I was converting to JPEG first before importing. I'll switch to this method and see if I see any improvement.

Are you sure? I seem to remember a file size limit also around 200,000 bytes. But I haven't done this recently so maybe it's been lifted...
