Well, for my own database it might be without a trouble, but providing this special one always is declined - altough there is no third part database. The problem is a guy named "Ken Jones", a second composer for "Das Bittere und das Süße: Juwelen der Filmgeschichte" (4-042564-153163) but he is different from the "Ken Jones" who did Visual Effects for e. g. "3 Engel für Charlie", "2 Fast 2 Furious" and countless other US-Movies.

As none of them has a birthyear to find, I simply put a (II) behind the one of "Das Bittere....", a guy who is not even credited in the imdb, and it's still "An invalid source, such as a third party database, was listed in the contribution notes. Use of a third party database is not allowed per the contribution rules."

So it seems that this is partially an automatic process, causing declination if the phrase imdb is anyhwhere to find? Because if really somebody would read the text of the contribution, something else wouldn't happen.... And for sure there is one voter, always saying no "Ken Jones (II) is not valid per rules (you can't gave him a "(II)" behind the name to separate him from the other "Ken Jones")"

Hm, in my contribution I asked for explanation before declination as I can't find it in the rules and so I don't know how to make it better.

Not to mention that imdb has more than 20 different Ken Jones, most of them w/o by - so if there is no definition so far how to separata birthyears without birthyears we might need to create a new rule....

Without a birth year, you cannot differentiate between the two crew members called Ken Jones. You also can't put (II) after one of their names because the rules say:
Quote:
Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits.
Adding the (II) suffix means they are not "exactly as they are in the credits".

Actually, the rules are quite specific:
Quote:
Do NOT use IMDb style Roman Numerals to distinguish between crew members or actors using the same name

There can only be one Ken Jones until a birth year can be found to distinguish them from each other. Until then, he can't use Roman numerals or anything else which isn't in the on-screen credits.

You can add dummy BYs in your local data base.

9xxx is an established variant, where xxx is the roman number appended in IMDb. - eg. 9025 for the VFX guy, 9000 for a guy not listed in IMDb.

When you contribute profiles including such dummy BYs, you may not check the BYs on the bottom:

When you refresh these profiles, the dummy BYs are marked to be updated, but the download itself does NOT touch them, as long as there is not a valid BY - given BYs overwrite existing (dummy) BYs.

Tons of these dummy BYs are included with the headshot files...

Last but not least: you should add the additional Ken Jones to the BY documentation to keep them all together...

I was going to say exactly what AiAustria just did.  You can assign them fake birthyears in your local, but in the online there is no way to do it.

But if I use the 9xxx to separate the one for me and don't check the box for contribution, then in the online database here both Ken Jones become the same? Hm...... this sounds as if I might need to do a little research to hopefully find out his by. Don't like fake years.....

But thanks to all for so much help!

In the database, the crew called Ken Jones are only separate if they have a birth year. You won't be changing anything if you don't check the box (you shouldn't), but your local profile will make more sense.

Yes, this fake BYs are strictly local. ... erveryone has to do the differentiation for him/herself again...

But they work for oneself.

I for myself try to follow the BY threads and create the needed fake BYs up front; that's when the headshots get incorporated into my data base. This way of handling - if I were up to date - allows to immediatly identify wrong entries without big researches....
