No, he himself cannot enjoy them for some reason, which is somewhat against the stream as the shows/films mentioned are usually well received. (at least that's how I understood it). | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | Hi Guys,
I'll take a stab at it.
Seinfeld - Is so atypical of everyday life, in that they were so into just themselves, that the contrast to normal life is/was funny. Also the 3 supporting characters had many setups for Jerry.
Friends - Trendy hip beautiful young people, two stupid minded, people interfacing with normal individuals. Etc.
Memento - A movie backwards! I believe this movie stood alone as no other movie did this. The uniqueness, gave this movie a cult like following. For myself this movie is great (stands alone) needs to be watched several times.
ET - Come on! Kids, friendly ET, hiding it from the parents, helping it phone home, protecting ET from the govt. Family movie, etc.
Talk Shows Leno etc - Jokes, trendy guests. Often times most everyone will view an everyday event/situation, in the same manner, a comedic situation might view the same event 180 degrees out than normal people, & emphasize the difference, making the situation, so bizarre as to be funny.

Rico It may have been unique if Nolan hadn't used the same concept 2 years prior in his film Following. |

| Posted: | | | | Why I don’t get (popularity) it… TV Shows: 01. Day time soaps … Just a repetition of story lines & a week translate into a year daily episodes… 02. Seinfeld … Don’t find him funny 03. Lost …Feels like the writes don’t have a clue where to go or how to end… Come 2010 & the final episode and its going to be all a dream… 04. Friends …Boring\Fake like so many other sitcoms 05. The Office …Both bosses creepy again don’t find it funny 06. Black Adder …Rowan Atkinson can’t stand him 07. Only Fools & Horses …Only saw it recently & to me it didn’t age well 08. Talk Shows …The Presenters more interested in themselves, screaming guests…The one I like is Larry King. 09. Buffy & Angle …To me they like S Club 7 is to music… 10. Veronica Mars …Get to class and act your age… Movies: 01. Star Wars …I like Star Trek 02. LOTR …My Inner Kid is dead – just don’t like this type of fantasy movies\books 03. Pirates …Boring 04. ET …Too warm & fuzzy, any movie with more than 1 'ahh' moment in it and you’re being manipulated… 05. Spiderman …Toby, can’t stand him 06. Labyrinth …Same as LOTR 07. Memento …Sometimes experiments should stay in the lab 08. The Aviator …Leo not convincing & too long 09. Gangs of New York …Can’t sit through it after the 3rd time of trying I gave up 10. Animation …Even as a kid hated them Terry, “born on a farm” not likely haven’t even seen a live cow |

Now I don't get it? Why would you post a list of things you don't like? Spare us the list of foods you don't like!
Hi Wyatt er Mr. Kovacs - I'll check that one out! Somewhat similar along that vein is Eternal Sunshine...

I agree on soaps, but do you mean US soaps, or UK? I don't watch Coro, or Emmerdale, but they are Shakespeare compared to Neighbours or the US stuff. Seinfeld I never liked and Lost, I hated. Friends was hit and miss to me. Quote:

Sitcoms, try Spaced, Black Books and Peep Show for something with a little more bite. The Office is love or hate (I'm in the first camp) because sometimes it is incredibly real. Quote:

For Talk Shows, watch Parkinson. A lot of critics say he doesn't ask challenging questions, but a talk show is only as good as it's guest and he lets them just chat. Apart from Meg Ryan. That was hilarious. But Buffy is the best TV show ever created in the history of mankind. The sooner you realise your mistake the better. Quote:
04. ET …Too warm & fuzzy, any movie with more than 1 'ahh' moment in it and you’re being manipulated…
Your movie list, some I like, some I don't. Whatever. But I had to take exception at this. Spielberg is a regular punch bag for being too emotional, which I think is rubbish. Don't you think a horror film manipulates you just as much? Why not complain about that? Ahhhhh, but you see, that is the trick.... the first film he did it in "was" Memento - just that he made the films backwards.... think about it | | | Signature? | Posted: | | | | well, i can understand the aversion to some of the tv things...and not because i'm a tv basher, some of the things listed, such as soaps, talk shows, seinfeld and buffy (both of which i watched and enjoyed) are acquired tastes, like coffee or beer (i know but some people actually don't like beer) that not everyone in the world ever gets used to. as for the movies (and i guess buffy/angel as well) i noted that many of them were sci fi/fantasy/superheroe sort of things (let's skip star wars-star trek a sec). i work with someone who doesn't get these kind of movies or tv shows either. who wants to see someone jump around in a costume. i say not everyone can reach that level of disbeiief required by these genres. there's nothing wrong with them. i don't like torture movies, but i like horror movies. and i do understand how someone who is invested in Star Trek might not like Star Was ( don't attack me, i liked IV, V, & VI--you can attack me on that implication is you like ). they are fundamentally different sci fi concepts. so i've written a long post and i'm so against that. submitting totally unproofed. krik | | | "Vampirism is still not a disease, Julia.
