| Posted: | | | | Once again we have a user trying to change SRP. From 28.99 to 28.98
He is trying to cite some sources to support the change and he is right about that part of it. BUT the Rules are very clear. "Do not make contributions with changes of a few cents/pence to the SRP."
They do not say you can change it for a penny if you can prove it, they simply say DON"T DO IT.
My data in fact agress with his, BUT because $28.98 and $28.99 are the "same" price and BECAUSE the Rules say specifically NOT to do it, I withdrew my data once a new Contribution was approved, and I will keep mine locally which is what this user should do as well.

| Posted: | | | | Yes and some people use the price they paid for the dvd instead of the SRP. It's very obvious on newly released items. Or they use latest SRP for re-released dvd, changing the original SRP. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. | Posted: | | | | Nothing that is reliable, SOMETIMES you can find a press release. But usually it is going to come from one or more retailer sites, Berak. What people don't understand is that retailers assign their MSRP based upon whatever they get from the Distributor and then adjust it to whatever their company policy is. For example, a Distributor might provide a retail price of 19.99, without any information we can find, and you will see retailers listing their SRP anywhere in the range $19.75-$19.99 and they are essentially the same thing TWENTY dollars. The Rule was developed to stop EXACTLY what has been described above.
We used to get someone putting up and SRP of 19.95 from DVDEmpire, then someone would change it to 19.92 from DVDPlanet, Deep Discount might say 19.97, Wal Mart might say 19.88 and so on....it was obscene and consumed both screeners time and users for NOTHING.

| Posted: | | | | I pressume this refers to my pre-release contribution for 28 Weeks Later which Skip has voted No for. If so it was a change from $29.99 to $29.98. As he did not include the details, it is 024543-469902, R1-USA, so people can see the context. It is a wider contribution of a lot of additional details of a newly announced pre-release DVD - cover art, Edition, CoO, Features, Audio, etc etc. Not just a SRP change. I disagree with Skip's interpretation of the rule. I believe rule disallows SRP only contributions of the type we saw on occasion, bouncing things back and forwards, and adding very little to the database. If the rule said "Do not make changes of a few cents/pence to the SRP." I would agree with Skip, but it does not, it talks about contributions to make those changes. IMO, the rule does not, and should not, disallow changes of this as part of a much wider change as in this case, as it causes no additional work for screeners and users. The change I made is consistent with all of the major R1 retailers that I checked (very few even list it yet), as well DVDActive, DVDTimes, The Digital Bits - I have been unable to find any retailer/site who shows the price included in the initial (very limited) contribution. Apparently some people find it more important to start another argument in the forum, than get the accurate info into the database. And as a final point, the person who made the original contribution has voted Yes to my contribution. | | | Andy

What is to interpret. There is none. It says nothing about changing the SRP for a penny under ANY circumstance, I don't care how wide your Conbtribution is. The Rule SIMPLY states DON"T DO IT. There is NO room for any interpretation and the Rule was written for this precise reason.
And I have advised the person that voted yes that you have violated the Rules so I anticipate he will change his vote.

| Posted: | | | | "SRP Use the SRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) at the time of the DVD’s original release using the currency type matching the locality of the DVD. Do not change the SRP in DVD Profiler to reflect reductions in SRP that distributors make in continually over time following release. Ensure the currency type matches the locality of the DVD. Do not make contributions with changes of a few cents/pence to the SRP."
There is nothing that suppoort your interpretation at ALL.

| Posted: | | | | Show me in the paragraph about SRP ANYTHING that supports your position, sir. There is nothing there, but there is the direct prohibition against changing the SRP for pennies. Follow the Rules.

| Posted: | | | | Irrelevant, Randall. FACT there is data called SRP, regardless of what YOU, I or anyone else thinks about it, and it serves merely as a reference point. Although with a recent Supreme Court Ruling that may change.

| Posted: | | | | The intent of the rule was to avoid SRP-only contributions.
However, I would also deem a change for 1c unnecessary. It is not against the Rules though, and if it was part of a wider contribution, I would not vote No just for that reason. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |
