| Posted: | | | | When I startup DVDP on my Windows 7 desktop, it takes 1 minute and 20 seconds before it is fully up. I have about 1500 dvds in my DVDP catalog. I created a new database and cataloged 8 dvd-s and it took 116 seconds to start up. Anybody have any idea what is going wrong? I am running Win7, 64-bit, on a Dell XPS 8500, i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 GHZ, with 9 GB RAM.
Thanks. |

| Posted: | | | | It took 40 seconds to open 15,938 titles.
So, it seems that it is taking too much time to open yours.
Have you tried a database repair? I always try this first if things don't seem to be working right.

| Posted: | | | | From the knowledgbase article on speeding up startup, here's something to try:
"Select Tools->Options->Defaults and under "Regions to Include," uncheck any regions you don't need loaded. This affects the list of available profiles in the Add to Collection window."
Search the knowledgebase (under support above) for 'speed' to read more.
As an example, my collection of ~3000 takes 11 seconds to start up. | | | Last edited: by Forum Moderator |

| Posted: | | | | After doing a database repair as suchhested above, if this does not change anything, is there any lag with other programs when starting them for the first time after a system shutdown?
Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open your Task Manager and click on the Performance tab. How much memory is currently being used, and watching for a minute without doing anything else, are there are any great spikes or hovering highs above 2% to 5% under CPU Usage? | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | Sounds like something is really wrong.. My setup isn't as fast as yours and I have 3,000 and it takes about 40 seconds to load, and I have all the regions selected on default.
If hte repair doesn't work, I might try a full backup and then uninstalling DVDP, rebooting, reinstalling DVDP and restoring your backup. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | My system is pretty old and a lot of things have improved. Example I could really use USB 3 to My Book 2T drive for backup, a better graphic and more memory. W7 Ultimate (64), AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.30 Ghz It took 90 seconds, 19,089 profiles this morning. That is with a fresh defrag, (0 fragged files), and system cleaned of clutter and some back ground programs removed before I put the computer to sleep last night. DVD Profiler runs at 537,992K. I have two extra lists, Misc for duplicat film (blu-ray updates and one for lecture and courses), extra genre types and a lot of flags.
But it has taken up to 4 to 5 minutes with a dirty system. I usually know when going to happen and jack-up 'the profile'rs priority while it is loading.
Control Panel: Performance Information and Tools to get your computer performance rating. Mine is 5.1 to .9, except for graphics which I know needs to be upgraded, it is in the 3.5range.
I have increased the paging start and max size, because I usually run several programs when I'm building profiles and set the processor for best performance..
Under Advanced Tools there are some things to look at & try, but remember what you mess with so you can put it back. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. | Posted: | | | | Less than 35 seconds on my old Dell desktop computer from 2006. I upgraded to Windows 7, a HD graphics card and 4 GB of memory a few years ago but other than that it has not been touched. But I keep my system neat and tidy, no unnecessary background services that drag the performance down.
Even om my 1.33 GHz Atom netbook with 2 GB memory the startup time isn't too bad, but probably over a minute. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |
