I'm looking for a quick clarification of the rules, are we still supposed to contribute the outer slip cover, assuming one exists, as the official image scans for a profile?

Reason I asked, is because the French version of Three Kings (Les Rois du Désert) with EAN [5-051889-016205] was originally contributed with the scans of the slip cover.  However, an individual recently submitted cover scans on the interior case art stating "Scanned cover without Warner Blu Line".

I voted no based on how I understood the current rules but it seems a few other seem to disagree.

Rules:
Quote:

If a DVD is packaged in a keep case, within a slipcase of some kind, scan the Cover Images from the outer slipcase. If, however, the Slipcase is reflective, and the inner cover art is identical, use the Keep Case art to scan, as it will give a better quality image.
If a title is re-released with the same UPC, but different cover images do not contribute the new images. This includes cases where a DVD was initially released in a slipcase, which was later removed. As explained in the introduction you may use your personal images in your local database, but they will not show online.

IMO, straight forward case of you being right if there is a difference between the original slipcase and what is being contributed.

If the original release was with the slip cover... then that is what belongs in the online. If it was originally released without the slip then then the original keep (inner) case should be the one in the online.

True, I made the assumption that the Slip was part of the initial release.  But you know what they say when you assume...  Most of the time that is the case, but sometimes there are re-releases with slipcovers, usually 'award' editions.

Thanks for the clarification guys, justed wanted to make sure since updated rules aren't always captured in the contribution rules guide.

Addicted2DVD, yes, this was originally released with a slip under the Warner Blu-line.  I purchased my copy when it was first released.

You are 100% correct. It's the reason why I haven't contributed the cover scan in one of my recent contribution as I don't keep the slip cover I don't scan them.

Hope you don't throw them away, you can sell/trade them away for a buck or two, if not more, for most of them.  Or you could just send them to me!

I've rescanned the inside cover for all the profiles in the db that have slipcovers, but I don't.  Of course I just keep this in my local.  I need to go through and identify them so I can upload them to Mithi's site.

Of course this could be easily rectified if we had the ability to store multiple cover art as previously requested in this feature request thread.

Pete is correct.  I personally think slip covers are just packaging and are not the "real" covers but the rules are what they are.  I do NOT have any slip cover images in my database and never will.

Well, it looks like the DB administrators decided to accept the interior cover art and uncheck the slip cover check box since this contribution got approved.

That's why worrying about the rules and discussing them in this forum is mostly a waste of time.

You should know that ignoring the rules leads to total anarchy ... thus if this is the case then why do we have contribution rules at all; it should just be a free for all and just imagine how much simpler it would be.

I didn't say we should ignore the rules.  Contribute your profile to the best of your understanding of the rules and the voters will "discuss" your contribution through the voting system.  If they like it, it will usually be approved.  If they dislike it, it will usually be denied.  Whether it's approved or denied has more to do with how the votes fall than what the rules say.

Mistakes happen unfortunately. What I would do is resubmit the originally artwork (with the slipcover) making sure to mention in my notes that the new one is of a re-release and that yours are the correct ones.

This should be approved.

Sorry, I wasn't being serious ... I guess that didn't come across clearly.

Seems like the votes should be used, more so, in conjunction with what the rules say rather than how they actually end up falling.
