Domain names mostly tend to auto-renew automatically when they reach their expiry date, unless the domain owner explicitly cancels them. So while there are legimate concerns about the future of DVD Profiler (the fact that it's no longer available in Google's Play Store is a very bad sign), I really wouldn't worry about the expiry date of the domain name. When you check the expiry dates again on the mentioned dates, I'm sure you'll find that they'll have been extended by another year. I daresay that in the end, the domain names will probably exist quite some time beyond the (fully-functioning) life of the program itself. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

All correct, but the automated renewal is invalidated without payment. At least that's the way mine work. No pay - no stay. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Sure, but's that's merely a matter of "are the customer's credit card details that NetworkSolutions has on file still accurate?". There's really no reason to doubt that. The main "sign of life" that we're getting from Invelos is the fact that occasionally - though less and less frequent - a batch of second-level (i.e. human) reviewing is being done. As long as that doesn't stop entirely, as long as someone occasionally bothers to do that, I don't expect the domain names to expire. In any case, hosting all this is obviously way more expensive than a couple of domain names. If it was my project and I wanted out, I'd cancel the server/the hosting, but I'd initially hold on to the domain names. |

I think Ken has lost interest in continued development of the program and just keeps what is alive for our sake. Ken hasn't even added new titles to his online collection since 2018. It makes me wonder if he still support physical media or if he just transitioned to digital. Possible, but why isn't he just telling us? This behaviour and secrecy makes no sense at all. |

Yes, but that would still mean to engage with a lot of people, who will be disappointed and will voice their resentments. Sometimes you just walk away. That is my line of thinking also. For whatever reason(s) he moved on to something else. Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me. And also quite fine for Ken to do. If he has lost interest and its not financially viable, it is a big thanks that he is keeping things around for all the users he built up over the years. Buying movies, unfortunately, is on the decline in physical form at least. As much as many of us would prefer it to be thriving, it just doesn't seem to be the case with streaming taking over. Anecdotally, I was at work speaking to a new graduate early 20 something, she was amazed that i "buy CDs", as apparently nobody does that anymore. I tried to explain the notion of actually owning the title and that it can disappear from streaming services and so on, but they just didn't seem to get it. I'm trying to move away form social media and those kinds of services because they are just negative cesspools. He's smart if he wants to avoid any online conflict as its just such a waste of time, energy and can be emotionally draining. Quoting xiudt9469: Quote: Seriously, you think he's still alive? Someone is still logging in with his credentials, it would be a bit macabre if that is done by someone else. I'd like to think he's supporting the software by keeping all the servers and everything running. For me, DVDProfiler still does what I need it to, and works without issues. I'm no where near the title limit (I didn't know that existed until recently). I do hope it keeps going as long as possible. There's no way i'm switching to a subscription service like Collectorz. Besides the fact the owner was totally unethical coming into the DVDProfiler facebook group to pimp his product, without identifying himself as the owner or person that will profit from his posts, its a total rip-off. I think i'd rather keep a spreadsheet over having to pay for another subscription program. Though if DVDProfiler swapped over to a reasonable sub, i'd totally consider it as a loyal user to support the software. | | | Last edited: by PWolverine |

| Posted: | | | | For what it's worth, as of November 2021, Invelos Software, Inc was still a "Business in Good Standing" with Kenneth Cole listed as Director. So, the business is still open he may just be concentrating on things that actually generate income. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
