| Posted: | | | | Yes, boss. And fortunately the data i have seen thus far concurs with your observation. I would like to see more fields in an upcoming version to accomodate the desires of the other side. I have never said their argument is wrong or that the data that they want should not be allowed for, but NOT at the expense of the existing data and i fear that is where the problem will come in. But I can hope that won't be true. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

If users are concerned with the database, please refocus this energy on crafting a simple rule for the entry of this field. The field name is semantics. The field rule and content should be the focus. As Ken said, which is important is what is put in the field. For those who are not comfortable with the term "publisher", they may customize their own layout with "distributor" or anything else, using a translation file. | | | Images from movies |

New field = mass contribution update = mass pay to our contribution evaluators! But, I'm sure you guys can come up with something else the world of DVD collecting needs, so the new "Producer?" field will have company in the contribution queue! | | | Invelos Software, Inc. I don't think we need a "new field" as much as we need an expansion of the existing "Media Publisher" field to allow up to three entries so that we could place all companies who are associated with the production and distribution of the DVD itself. Trying to distinguish between production and distribution is sometimes next to impossible, so why even try. Just enter them all. Someone who needs to know which company did what function will have the names and they can figure it out on their own without having to confuse the rest of us. If you were to commit to adding these two additional "slots" in the next version, the easiest thing to do for now for the existing "Media Publisher" field in the interim, would be to continue entering the same data there as we have entered into the 3rd slot (when available) in the studio filed in the past. Then when the field is expanded, those "other" companies can be added, e.g., Touchstone Home Video, Walt Disney Home Entertainment, MGM DVD, etc. | | | Hal |

Sorry but I'm not buying that argument. I agree that the name of the field is semantics because a rule can easily define it but for you to say that a new field = mass contribution update = mass pay to your contribution evaluators is about as lame a defense as I've seen considering your past history. Every time you release a new version you break up the fields piecemeal as to create this problem. Several of the fields you have broken up over years could have been dumped into version 2.3. Even you have to admit we have been asking for them since long before then. The fact is you are going to have to add at least one expansion to this field to accommodate just the uses it has now. With only one slot you will have ping-pong contributions on many of the releases due to the fact that it is so difficult to discern between the "publisher" and the "distributor". I see this as Ken's same release-method different year. Hey but this isn't all bad. As long as you do it this way there are several part-time workers who have job security. Considering the current economy, good work Ken!!!!! | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |
