Ken purposely don't put all his clarifications in the rules.

Fine.  We're only obliged to follow The Rules, not the clarifications.  This whole farce is one reason I no longer contribute anything but cover art.

As for seeing it as a violation of the voting rules. Report me...

To be honest, I don't think we have that many profiles in common, but in any case 99% of my votes are "neutral".

I'm inclined to agree. If Invelos can't be bothered to put it in the rules, since that is what most people will ever see, then we can't be expected to vote and contribute by any other standards.

While it may seem to be needed in this case. I have to completely disagree with such a statement as a whole. Why? Because these clarifications in the forums are just that... clarifications on what the rules that are already there mean. As such simply following and pointing to these clarifications on the forum is more then perfectly acceptable. It is the way I (and many others) have done it since the introduction to the rules. And the way I will continue to do it personally.

This happens loads and loads with audio CDs that have a limited edition release of some sort that's basically the audio CD and its sleeve in a case that holds a second (DVD) disc.  Mostly a sticker gets put on the case to say it's the deluxe edition or whatever it's been called.  Without the sticker they'd look like identical releases.

Worst still, it's also quite common for a DVD of videos to be released with the same name (especially for greatest hits collections), which means without the sticker providing an edition, the titles for the DVD, and the audio CD with the bonus DVD, would be identical.

Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

It's not acceptable to me, and I suspect to many others.  In this particular case Ken's "clarification" is enough different from the actual rule that there's no excuse whatever for not re-writing the rule if he intends for us to follow it.

All the current situation does (IMO) is reduce the pool of contributors.

In those examples do those other editions get unique UPCs?  The UPC/EAN also helps to differentiate between different releases besides the title.

I said that in this particular case a rules revision may be needed in this case... in the first sentence which you for some strange reason chopped off when you quoted me.

But that don't change the fact that your comment that I was replying to was about not following any clarification in the forums. as I show below...

Now do I think this particular rule needs to be changed? If he doesn't change his mind... yes. But from the same thread Ken also said he would consider going with the anywhere on the case... so I personally would rather see him change his mind (which I am still working on him about) then see him change the rule.

But until such thing happens we must follow the decision he has made. Just like any other clarification he has made.

I think Ken is mostly indifferent to what we contribute.  If this weren't the case then an Invelos representative would take a more active role in these forums and The Rules would be updated more frequently to provide better clarity.

Clarifications are fine, siomtimes, but this looks more like a rewrite of the rules. Which makes me wonder if it wouldn't be easier to just update the rules than have multiple threads about the subject in the forums.
