I of course wouldn't dream of trying to tell anyone what to do with their local databases. I was only saying that until a time that Invelos changes their mind... I imagine once they update the program to be able to have season indicators in their own field or what have you... we have to make our contributions as they request them to be made.

But if season indicators do get their own field, wouldn't we be right back to "1 title credit for 12 seasons of a show?" That would be incorrect data!
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

No, that would be bad processing of correct data. Obviously a program change would be required to properly handle the new field.

But Husker has a point. If you ignore the season indicator field, "Season 1" becomes the same as "Season 2".

If you don't ignore it, then "The Complete First Season" becomes something different than "Staffel 1" and we're right back to square one.

If the season indicator is numerical only, i e "1" for season 1, then the language problem is overcome.

You ignore it for the sake of the CLT; you don't ignore it for the sake of display information.  There shouldn't be any conflict.

In what context would you expect there to be confusion between using it and not using it?

I am always for exactly as on the case.... I don't believe the season indicator field ...if we we ever get one... would be needed at all for the CLT... just the title and the year (as it is now) would be plenty for the CLT. The year would be enough to separate the seasons for the majority of titles.

Simple solution:
Title on the case in Title field
Series Title in Original Title field + Season indicator in its own field linked to the Original Title field.

For example Brothers and Sisters: The Complete Fifth and Final Season.
On screen title Brothers & Sisters.

Title field: Brothers and Sisters: The Complete Fifth and Final Season

Original Title field: Brothers & Sisters
Season Indicator: 5

Bad idea or not.... it still has to be followed until such time as Invelos changes their mind.

This. Again, I've been suggesting for years to take the season indicator out the title field, but until something like that is implemented, Invelos has decided how we're to handle this. Given that, I'm baffled by the fact that some users STILL choose to vote against such corrections, when again, it's EXACTLY what Invelos told us to do...

Just for the record, I never suggested that Invelos's instructions should not be followed. Even misguided rules must be followed. I just pointed out that it is a bad idea, and I strongly maintain that.

In order to implement correct counting for the CLT, one must first decide what is correct. There are several possibilities:
1) Per episode
2) Per season
3) Per profile
4) Per TV show
and probably other variants that I haven't even considered. My guess is that most of you would prefer once per season. Well, that's not quite as easy as it may sound.

How do you count half-season releases? How do you count multi-season releases? How do you count "Best of"-releases?

Also, how do you count irregularly recurring roles? How do you count actors appearing in different roles? What if they appear with different credits in the same season?

You don't have to answer all these questions. You just have to realize that what is correct to some will always be incorrect to others, and it might be difficult to find a solution that would be perfect to anyone...

which is one of the reasons that I hope Ken comes through with updated cast/crew sections that does away with the need for the CLT at all... which he said he was working on.

I would support this also. But make it Season/Series indicator (for those seasons/series that are have the same episodes). Family Guy would be a problem though, since the Volumes released here in the US usually include more than 1 season (Season = Series in the UK).

One problem with Addicted's idea: Shows that have 2 seasons that start in the same calendar year. I have Rules of Engagement: Season 1 and Rules of Engagment: Season 2 that both started in 2007. Season 1 started at mid-season (Feb. 2007) and Season 2 started in September 2007.
