The 3 most important credits in a film are:
1. Director 2. Writer (s)
screenplay, story or just "written by" In older movies: scenario, dialogue, adaptation If the film is based on other medium (source material) a credit is also usually given (eg: Charles Dickens), but not always
If the film of the screen cap above was made today the writing credits would probably simply read "screenplay by Sidney Gilliat, Joan Harrison and J.B. Priestley" or "written by,,,,", with no distinction given to who wrote what.
The Hitchcock film Blackmail (1929) has 2 writer credits: "dialogue - Benn Levy" and "adaptation - Alfred Hitchcock" (he adapted Charles Bennett's play) To leave one out (or both?) is simply insane and says a hell of a lot about who wrote these "invelos rules",,,,simply put, they know nothing about film (but have a nice collection of shiny discs)
3. Producer (s)
The next 3 most important credits:
4. Composer 5. DoP 6. Film Editor
Those are the 6 essential credits. Many film sites only include those 6, nothing else.
Watch movies, pay attention to the credits. |

They seem more interested in getting in as much "correct" data as they can even at the cost of letting some error slip in, which means they are showing some flexibility. --------------- |

I watch movies, pay attention to the credits and, speaking for myself, couldn't care less who the writer, composer, DoP or film editor were and I'm not the only one. When Profiler was first released, it only included a half dozen crew credits. Watch movies, pay attention to the credits. I would love to see a program that analyzes the disc itself and pulls as much data as possible from it (perhaps with the help of AnyDVD and other software tools), and only takes minimal input from users. The 6 credits above, plus things like title, cover scans, some dates, and a handful of other user entered fields would be great. For anything beyond those fields plus information that software can pull from an inserted disc, just have external links (IMDB, etc.). That way, you could actually compare disc structure, sizes, layers, regions, audio and video tracks, and other such info for discs from different localities, something that many people would actually find useful. "I collect movies not discs" does not apply really, because the movies you collect are in fact on discs and you want information about the discs, for information about the movie, you have IMDB and Wikipedia. DVD Profiler seems to have turned into mostly a void of endless bickering and absolutely tons of useless and redundant data which serves no purpose, such as "common names". | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." | | | Last edited: by Grendell |
