It would be very easy to add checkboxes in CLTBoss for Cast and Crew that are defaulted to checked. Would that help you?

Maybe.  I haven't tried CLTBoss yet, but if it can look up cast and crew separately that may be an incentive.

This reminds me that I've never understood why the CLT combines cast and crew into one lookup when the program keeps separate databases for cast and crew.  I've always felt there should have been two CLTs.

Maybe it's so that the common name should be based on both cast and crew for people who exist in both databases? It would be a little odd if someone was assigned one common name as cast and another common name as crew.

Maybe the CLT was created at a point in time, when it was clear, that - programmatically - there should be a name underlying the credits. v5...

Well I believe that tools should have options to allow domain experts to make the decisions that account for the changing landscape, that cannot be predicted. So, having the checkboxes doesn't mean they have to be used, unless the user deems it makes sense. If somebody else has an issue with it, then it is on the user to be accountable.

I don't know that I would call it odd.  The program treats someone who is both cast and crew as two different people, so I don't see why the CLT shouldn't do the same.  Or maybe the CLT has it right and the program should have a single person table rather than a cast table and a crew table.  Whichever way, I think they're out of sync and it would make more sense if they either both had cast and crew separate or both had cast and crew combined.

I did not make myself clear in the previous post: From my point of view it is complete nonsense to separate cast an crew. The only reason I could imagine, why DVD Profiler seperates these two types of persons: legacy from a poor data base design.

Ok, now I am conflicted. I certainly have enough on my testing plate already. So maybe I will bypass the suggestion this round. The way I would implement it actually would be no different from deleting the unwanted chunk of xml before saving for use with CLTinfo. So if for some reason you wanted to do that, you simply do it manually in the xml output window.

The way CLTBoss works is that you get the cast and crew credits in two separate sections of the XML, just as in Invelos XML. So you can process the XML any way you like. See the CLTInfo Tool.

Maybe that is a bit harsh? In fact the Industry separates them. The film credits, the IMDB-style movie databases, the industry jargon. If I were designing a program, I would want it to reflect the industry terminology and practices. I think what Ken did was simply that. And if I interpret the files I see in the Profiler folders correctly, there is only one table, ACTORS.DAT. There are other tables which appear to provide linkages to the cast and crew credits, but it appears to me that all the people are in one table. Correct me if you think I am wrong, and point to the evidence.

I thought that DIRECTPRODUCE.DAT contained the crew info. Named so because initially the only crew that Dvdp tracked was director and producer. But I could be wrong.

Here is am interesting one I stumbled across while testing my latest updates to CLTBoss. I discovered that one of my favorite actresses, Ellen Page, is now Elliot Page. I didn't know. So, the CLT reports masses of stuff for Ellen Page of course, but zero / nada for Elliot Page.

What on earth would / could be a process to cover that one? Is that on Invelos, on each individual user, "no way to fix it", ????

As this world continues to turn. I suspect there are more and will be more situations like this.

Of course these are rhetorical questions. We have no hope of solving this one at this stage.

I thought of this too as I first heard of it. But I think there is nothing to fix here. Not until he has starred in more movies under this name, more than under the former one.

Here is an part of an quote T!M posted on page 3 of this thread.

... and when the common name flips, there is a bulk rename function accessible by pressing Ctrl, which fills changes the person in all profiles and maintains the creditedAs field if checked...

Just when I think I am getting it, another curve ball. Am I the only one who has no clue what you are talking about? Bulk rename of what, where? Ctrl-what? In what program? What are you talking about? Or did I fall for a joke ...
