I do the same as The Movieman--usually you can find what you're looking for.  I start at Wikipedia and then branch out from there as needed.

I see some people making changes in overview from an apostrophe to a single quotation mark in overviews, in most cases when it's being used as a possessive.

I had a few questions with this.  Is this an Invelos rule?  Because grammatically it's not correct to change it to a single quote, which is only supposed to be used inside of a double quote.  Also, frequently the actual overview uses an apostrophe, so we're changing it away from what the actual case shows.

Finally, the rules say to"Make sure your contributions add significant value to the database"--is such a contribution when it is the only thing in a contribution something that is adding significant value?

Ok no answer yet to that. Sort of doesn't matter, cause I'll probably do it anyway.

But this whole thing keeps bugging me. Suppose, everybody dutifully did bulk updates every time they had good evidence that it was needed, and then they submitted the changed profiles, and they got approved, then the updated profiles caused CLT results to change, then other users need to update their profiles, then ...

What kind of crazy system is that? I wonder if Invelos just didn't think it through, or maybe got stopped before finishing the support for "common name" and the associated CLT?

I mean, users should have to do NOTHING more than enter the data correctly. Then the "common name," whatever it is should be automatically and continuously computed by the server and the the common name field in the profile updated, but:

- there is no common name field  (but we could add one)
- there is no automated process (still thinking about this)

In a perfect world yes, but maybe I'm missing understanding what you're saying but if you enter say "Jonathan Smith," how would Invelos know if it's actually someone whose common name is "John Smith" or a new entirely new actor who goes by Jonathan Smith?

I don't see a way that it can be fully automated without some sort of human research involved.

I'm not so certain the other John Oliver's common name is John Oliver.  He is credited as Gerry Bean in several movies, see https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0063782/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t12 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerry_Bean.

We may need a common thread for this.  However, there also seems to be a sound man John Oliver so the BY should probably stand.

I've seen this before too--my only explanation is that whoever created the child profiles never contributed an update to the parent profiles with them as box set contents?

Even features that are already profiled elsewhere, like audio commentaries or trivia tracks, must, per the rules, always be included in the features section as well.

I don't see where it says that in the rules.  I do see where it says "Use the Other free text box for Extras that do not have a specific indicator." and as previously mentioned, this does.

There are so many DVD, Blu-rays, etc. that pulling up what one says is a special feature versus another is fruitless.  One of your examples you posted says High Definition Transfer, which was a common one when Blu-rays first came out.  So should that be an Other Feature?

It also states "If you're unsure whether a particular Extra should be listed here, it probably shouldn't be."  You seem sure that it should be, so you can put it there locally.  But in general people seem unsure, so for the official profile that seems to indicate it shouldn't be.

Since, I was the no vote, let me state my opinion on the reasoning behind it.

The other examples given (commentary, trivia track) have respective checkboxes to be used, so they are not Other Features, which is the topic at hand.  The rules say to use Other Features for extras that don't have a specific indicator.  This does, the Music Only selection in Audio.  The rules also say if you're unsure if an Extra should be listed, it probably shouldn't be.

I see no reason to put something into Other Features that is listed elsewhere, and the definition in the rules doesn't seem to support adding it in my view.

That picture is not an actual picture of the item, as the top of the Blu-ray is clear not blue like shown there.

However, I did dig up the shrink wrap (luckily I hadn't thrown it away yet!), and the MA 15+ sticker was on there.

Thanks for your help!

I just bought the new Australian Blu-ray release of Hard Eight (so I could finally have it on Blu!).  As I mentioned, it's an Australian release, so I set up the profile as such.  The rating on the slip cover, case, and disc all say 14.  The only thing is, that's not an option for me to choose!

I submitted the profile without a rating, but any idea what a "correct" rating would be?

Hoping someone has some suggestions for me.  I was doing my daily refresh of updated profiles, and I had a title where the image was updated but I guess I forgot to click it because it didn't update my profile.  Afterwards I went to Refresh Image and then Preview Changes and I can't get the new image on to my profile.

Anyone know why, or have another way that I can update my profile with the new image?

Catalonian, the second "Spanish" language is available.

If there is really a language, which is not available we have "other"...

Hello. The example that prompted my question has Audio Tracks for Spanish (Traditional Sort) 1 and Spanish (Traditional Sort) 2, but as my Spanish speaking ability is worse than my Klingon, I can't tell the difference.  Also, I recently saw a disc that had (I can't remember the exact wording but basically it was) Spanish for Spain and Spanish for South America, so the latter would suggest there're still two versions of Spanish as well as Catalonian.

Seriously, life would be so much easier if no one working in films/TV was allowed to have the same name as anyone else ever who's also worked in films/TV; and everyone spoke English, (Traditional of course).

It seems to me that most disc have "Spanish" and "Castillian" Spanish which if I understand correct, is not the same at Catalonian which is an option.  I think people treat the two as the same sometimes and again if I understand correctly, Castillian and Catalonian are different.  I didn't go beyond high school Spanish though, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Everyone,

Is there a way to find out the reason for a declined contributions?  I contributed almost the exact same thing to different versions of Spider-Man 2 (the difference was song writing credits that was already present in one version and wasn't in the other).  Both contributions had 2 yes votes and 0 no votes.  One was approved and one was declined, and I'd love to know why?

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

Is there a way to put images in contribution notes?  I have a title change that got denied but I'm fairly certain is correct and I figured by adding visual proof it would help.  I'm not very "tech savvy" so not sure if there is a way to embed it or anything like that?  I guess worst case scenario I could always say "see cover images"

As always, thanks in advance for your help!

Hey everyone just wanted to know what's the best sites to use to get UPCs for discs you don't own.  Especially for ones that haven't been released yet.  I'd love to be able to get some movies in the database before they are released.  Thanks in advance

BTW the exact same thing happened to me today.

I had to open DVD Profiler with a new blank databases, but I realized but other databases were still in the folder, I just had to open it from there once I got the program open.

That will be annoying if I have to do it every time though
