| Posted: | | | | Wondering if anyone has come across this. I'm trying to submit a change to Dune 4K UHD. Currently the 4K and Blu-ray in format is checked but this only has the main feature on the 4K disc while the included Blu-ray is just features. So when submitting the change, even though there was no checkbox for regions, it shows up as blank in the contribution.
I assume this is a flaw in the system but has anyone found a solution? I can't change the region box in the program itself because once you just select 4K, that section is grayed out and automatically displays as "Region 0". |

Oh, I see now - you mean if you only select 4K, and not Blu-Ray ... Let's see if I can do it with BulkEdit. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | Ok, I tried BulkEdit, and here is what it claims is in the database when only 4K is selected: Dune4KOnlyI tried to use BulkEdit to force a change, but the database always came back with all regions set. But as soon as I added the Blu-Ray checkbox, I was able to set some regions to false. So, I guess that confirms what you suspected. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | Here is some info I found. No clue how much of it is true - saying that up front. But if it is, this could be an explanation of DVD Profiler behavior and another indication of the amount of research that Ken does on things. https://www.220-electronics.com/blog/region-free-4k-ultra-hd-blu-ray-players-fact-fictionQuote:
Are all 4K UHD Blu-ray Players Region-Free? No, and this is where the misconception and misinformation come into play. For some reason, manufacturers have decided not to code 4K discs by region. In other words, if you have a 4K movie title, it should play in any 4K player, regardless of what country the disc came from. However, this is only true for 4K discs. Any other disc, such as a non-4K Blu-ray or a DVD, will not play in the 4K player.
The rumors that have been circulating claim that all 4K UHD Blu-ray Players are region-free. This has created a lot of debate and confusion, and it also has many consumers deciding that they need to purchase a new 4K UHD Blu-ray Player so they can watch movies from anywhere in the world. Again, this could not be further from the truth.
A real region-free player will play any disc, from anywhere in the world. The ability of 4k Players to play any 4K disc does not make the player region-free. In fact, as 4k becomes more widespread on the global marketplace, the discs may very well be region-coded. For all we know, the only reason these discs aren't being coded as of yet is to help promote growth of 4K technology - nothing more than a marketing tactic. While we cannot verify the reasoning behind 4K being regionless, we can definitely assure you that a 4K Player will not play standard Blu-ray or DVD discs from any region.

| Posted: | | | | That is exactly what I had gathered thus far.
My own Oppo UDP-205, a 4K UHD blu-ray player, has a hardware region modification inside which allows it to play DVD and blu-ray discs from other regions/zones. Without it, that wouldn't work. |

Yes, UHD discs have no region code or associated player UHD region code, but they still have region codes for Blu-ray discs (and DVD) if they support those formats too. |

| Posted: | | | | The region box should have a 0 in it. If it does not, then you might have another medium selected along with 4K. After getting the 0 to show up, lock it and it will always have the 0 after that. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

What will have to happen is once the contribution is approved and released, I (or someone else) will have to submit with the Region 0. |

Yes, UHD discs have no region code or associated player UHD region code, but they still have region codes for Blu-ray discs (and DVD) if they support those formats too. Then you mean the package (for which the profile ID is valid) I assume. A single disc can only support one format, right? | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. No quite sure what you're asking, but UHD discs have no region code and there is nothing in a UHD player for a UHD region code. Blu-ray discs can be encoded for one or more of Regions (A and/or B and/or C) and players which support Blu-ray region coding support only a single Blu-ray region code (A or B or C). |
