I just purchased DVDP today and I don't fully understand the contribute rules, I will eventually.

The "database" section (online) is where I view submissions, right?  And it tells me only for DVDs in my collection...so am I right that I must have an online list of my collection to even get into this section?

I did contribute a Full Screen version of The Mummy Returns because there was only a widescreen version listed.  I used the menu item in the program itself to submit it. I now realize I have a mistake in it...I listed it as Full Frame because the box said Full Screen.  I now have seen the definitions and realize it should have been Pan and Scan because it was shot is widescreen...is there a way for me to change my mistake?

I also tried to add The Day After Tomorrow to my collection but the UPC was unknown, so I added by Title.  But now looking at it the UPC is shown as 024543-150909  but the cover art clearly shows a UPC of 024543-135593 which is the same as the one I have.  The only difference is the UPC at the top right on mine is 00 and on the one in the database is 50...does this mean anything?  I also typed the first upc into another program I was evaluating and it show as no listing for this upc.  Is there a way to check to see if the UPC is wrong or just a different version?

I certainly don't want to be adding incorrect info to your database, that is why I am asking question, I hope I don't become a pest.  I already started off with a bad first impression by adding a mistake!!

One more question:  On The Mummy Returns the front of the box says "Full Screen" but the back of the box says "1.33:1 Full Frame" different wording, so how can I tell if a Movie is Full frame of Pan and Scan, unless I know if there is a widescreen version?

You have the section and can get into it, but nothing will be listed there before you have uploaded your colelction via Online -> DVD Profiler Online.

On the webpage, select My Profiler -> Contributions. Find the faulty contribution and click on the title. To the right, you now get a link that says Withdraw. Click it, and the submission is cancelled. Then go and submit the correct profile.

Not really... Select the profile you added by title, then choose DVD -> Change UPC. Enter the UPC/EAN on your cover and check everything - is all the information correct? If it is, submit the profile!

Note, when submitting new profiles (UPC/EANs that are not already in the database), you do not need to enter contribution notes - you will just get a confirmation box at the lower right of your screen that it has been submitted.

That's what the voting-system is there for! I bet we have all made mistakes in our contributions (yes, even Skip!).

Full screen and "1.33:1 Full Frame" are just different wordings for the same thing - that the picture is 1.33 : 1, which is the same as 4 : 3. So it fills the entire screen on a normal television. And no, I haven'r really found any sure-fire way to find out if it is FS or P&S, except comparing it with the WS-version - but if you have that, why buy the FS-version? (Why would you EVER buy the FS if a WS is available?)

I thank you for the information!!  But one thing I think you misunderstood:

I did not submit "The Day After Tomorrow", I was only trying to add it to my collection but did it by title because the UPC was wrong.  I didn't notice the mistake until I looked at the cover art and noticed the difference in the UPC from what is listed in "General Info" window.  So this one is not my mistake to correct (if it is a mistake) , so I have no idea how to do this one.  I will have to read more in the rules, I read through them but since this is my first day I don't have them memorized.

I'm not saying you made a mistake, I'm saying that it is not the first time we have seen identical products released witht he same UPC/EAN. So if you added it by the title, then change the UPC/EAN og the profile, check that the locality is correct, and then submit it as a new profile.

When you have changed the UPC/EAN, it wil NOT overwrite the profile in the online database that you downloaded, but be ADDED as a whole new profile...

FYI: Not only do you not need to enter contribution notes for new profiles, you're never given the option to add them.

I got ya..if I contribute with my UPC it will not affect the one in the database because the UPC is different.
I was just making the point that the one in the database now....the UPC listed and the UPC on the cover art don't match.  So, I think there is a mistake in that one.  I didn't know if I should try to suggest a correction or just add another.  I guess the "add another"  is the way to go.

Thanks again.

Yes, that is definitely an error... well spotted.
