As I said surfeur, whether you Contribute or not is your choice not mine. But IF you choose to Contribute simply follow the Rules, that is all we ask. If you don't like that and choose not to Contribute...oh well. This is a collaborative effort and its not efffective somebody decides that they don't want to play by the same Rules everyone else is playing by. I would rather have only 10 users who consistently tried to follow the Rules, than 3000 users with everybody trying to pull the database in a different direction. It's up to you, you can be part of the team or not.

You're complaining of a problem which I understand but you're not proposing any solution.

At one time, I had proposed that contributions should be anonymous, so that all people who contribute insignificant details just to have their name in the program, or to show the best statistics, would stop.

But I agree that this solution would probably also reduce the number of correct contributors.

As for now, I think that rules must stay at the point they were some days ago, at least in regions were nobody complains about the accuracy of the database. All was correct before the contributions were refused by lack of "proves".

OK, good idea...

I propose a new rule, that must be followed by all those who never discuss RULES.

In YOUR opinion all was correct,  I would be willing to bet from what you are describing, that you think it is accurate enough. IF it does not follow the Rules, then it should and will be declined, hopefully, so it is foir you to change your thinking and not try and bend the program to yours. There are reasons for all of this apparent madness, for example, IMDb does not require yet, users to provide real documentation NOR do they provide any form of tracking of their data so that you can look at how their data was obtained...WE DO on both counts. The end result is that IMDb is a MESS, one gigantic pile of inaccurate, unsubstantiated data.

The strict requirement for documentation on every and all changes has only recently been put into place by Invelos. About two weeks ago Ken made the following statement
Quote:
Contributions, especially those adding cast and crew, must include the source of the data in the contribution notes.  We will be taking a harder line on this requirement going forward, so please include the source when you contribute.

While I don't necessarily agree with the harder stance it's not my company. I'm sure they have their reasons.

To be "precise" the word source is only mentioned 2 times in the rules. Neither instance does it tell you you must cite a source when submitting a change.
From page one:
Quote:
The authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself.  Please don't submit content from a third party database, and always verify the specifications printed on the cover.  In both cases, errors abound, so always verify the information directly from the DVD whenever possible.

Cast:
Quote:
If an actor is credited by name but does not have an associated role, you may use another source to identify the role. In each case, list Actor’s names and roles (when given) exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited.

Many have been claiming for two years it is in the rules, but that is not the case. I guess if you speak it enough times it becomes a fact

Fact is they are not even required in the contribution notes section. All they say is you are required to include... contribution notes
Quote:
When you contribute a changed profile, you are required to include Contribution Notes. Use the space to enter full explanations for all changes and/or additions that you make. Make special reference to any changes where:

    * You have verified there is a discrepancy between the box and the actual content of the DVD - include your verification method.
    * You are making a subtle change that may be hard to spot - for example spelling correction to the overview.
    * You are removing incorrect information.

Contribution Notes provide an explanation of your changes to other DVD Profiler users and Invelos for voting and deciding whether to accept your contribution, so make your notes useful and descriptive.

IMO Ken needs to add his new requirements to the rules. There are many who do not visit the forums and are not aware of the new requirements. To them it is unannounced and different than it used to be.

Please, as you continually see new names on contributions, can you give me one or two new contributor on french zone 2 ?

No.  I don't do Region 2 DVDs.  I was making a point you apparently missed.

The nice thing is, you can have the information any way you want in your local db.

The bad thing is that you'll have to make your local db from nothing, if nobody have contributed before...

And about "good  contributors", for me they are probably not those that follow rules without any judgement, but people who are sufficiently intelligent to see that on a certain point, 95% of the users will change a "conform to the rule" data for their own db, and so change it immediately.

Whatever they decide to do with their own db is none of our business.  As long as they follow the rules on contributions I couldn't care less what else they do, and neither should you.

BTW, Rick, you migh not be aware of it but the following change HAS been made and appears on the Contribution Notes Page.

For changes to existing profiles, enter a brief description of the changes you've made.

For all contributions, indicate the source of the data, especially cast and crew additions.

Invelos reviewers and fellow users will use this information to help them decide whether to accept the changes, so be sure to provide explanations where needed.

Oh.. I get it. I don't contribute.

Funny YOU bring it up. Of the last 112 contributions I have had to vote on only 2 of them were your... and one of those was incorrect  But hey. You are a legend oin your own mind so let's not let the facts get in the way.

Oppps - forget to add all the

You can say anything you want, as long as you add some          to it... right?

YOU missed something.
I wanted to show you that your vision of zone1 problems is not true everywhere. But the problem of off-putting contribution rules IS true everywhere and when there are very few contributors, it can be significative to make them stop contributing. Try to consider you are not alone in the world.
