I have edited this post because I made a mistake. I was going by memory and remembered that he appeared in a visual montage of actors. I thought it was at the beginning of the film. The visual montage doesn't appear until the end of the film.

I am so sorry for the mistake and I posted the same in a later post in this thread. Many seems to have overlooked that.

Son House name appears at the of Black Snake Moan in a visual montage of the actors who appeared in the film, however he doesn't appear in the end credits.

The second paragraph says "all credited actors involved" are listed in end credits, however since Son House is not listed in the end credits does that mean that this film does not have "standard credits" and therefore the final paragraph applies and that Son House would actually be the first actor listed?

However, he only appears in vintage black & white footage. So would he be considered as being part of archival footage and likely not allowed to be listed?

The rules state:

For any film with standard credits, take the actor information from the end credits only, with names and roles listed exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited.

For the purposes of this section we define "standard" film credits as those where all credited actors involved are listed together in a single section at the end of the film - defined here as the "end credits".

If a film does not have standard credits, use the following rules:

    * If a film has actors listed in the opening credits, which are not listed in the end credits, add these to the list in DVD Profiler before those taken from the end credits.

The second paragraph says "all credited actors involved" are listed in end credits, however since Son House is not listed in the end credits does that mean that this film does not have "standard credits" and therefore the final paragraph applies and that Son House would actually be the first actor listed?

Based on the rules, he should be credited first.

It is clearly archival footage.  We do not credit people who appear in archival footage.  Never have.

I can't find that exception in the rules.  He is in the opening credits so he belongs in the profile.

Absolutely, totally, and completely WRONG!  In the first place, the guy is dead.  In the second place, he's not an actor in the film.  That's archival footage - set dressing - just like a Coke can placed in a scene, or a Ford car, or anything else used to set a mood, or prep a scene.  We don't give Adolf Hitler a credit when somebody uses archive footage of him, so this guy is no different.

That is your opinion, and you are welcome to it.  However, as I just posted, I do not find that exception in the rules.  If you can point it out I will be more than happy to change my stance.  If you can't, he must be entered...per the rules.

If Hitler, the Coke can, or the Ford were given a credit -- list 'em.

If not, scenery/prop/set dressing/special effect.

Son House, in the opening credits, by the rules, needs to be included in cast list.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I just did an update on this, including cast and crew, which has been approved and released, and as far as I remember it is not in the cast list.  If it were, I would have included it.

He dosen't appear in the beginning credits, but does appear in the pictures of the cast at the end of the film. He appears right around 1:51:36.

I didn't have time to put the disc in to check, and was going by memory. I remember the cast pictures in the film and I thought it was at the beginning of the film.

So sorry about that, but still would he be included if his name appears along with the pictured cast at the end of the film?

Cubby, what part of "not in the cast list" don't you understand?

Just for the record, I don't see why everybody is so hot to put this old boy in the cast list.  If you watch the featurettes, you find out quickly that the story is more of metaphor, even a cliche, than anything else.  What the author did was take a statement made by an old blues man and build a story around it.  Same as if he'd taken a statement from an old journal, or a daguerrotype picture and used that as a jumping off point.  This isn't a true story, it's just one made up that is illustrative of many of the subjects that you hear about in blues music.

I haven't seen this film. If he's in the credits, he ought to be including in the cast list. If he's shown, and not credited, but the DVD makes reference to his appearance, than that could be good enough for an (uncredited) place on the cast list.

If something Son House said inspired the screenplay, it might belong in the writer's credits, if there is a credit for his inspiration (based on... adaptation, sort of thing).

Perhaps this belongs in the Notes section.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.
