Last time I checked with the rules, this was not allowed to contribute. But I voted No on a profile that added this and got attacked by the contributor. So I checked the rules. Now there is no mention of this anywhere in the rules. What has happened?
Is this suddenly allowed? Have I missed something. I try to read every post here and on the Contribution Rules Committee forum. But apparantly I have missed something. Ken or Gerri, please clarify. I am very confused.

From the rules...

Quote:
Do not include Unit Directors or Directors of Special Features

Just look at the page for Credits and look at the column  that says "Incorrect Roles." It covers "unit people."

It just covers a few. Here I shall list all that is there, and set the ones concerning unit crew in bold:
Co-Director
Co-Producers
Associate Producers
Co-Executive Producer
Associate Producer
Director of Photography
Camera Operators
Unit Photographers
Cinematographer
Camera Operators
Unit Photographers
Songs by
Song/Music writers
Co-Anything
Assistants
Associates
Interns
Set Decorator

There is all incorrect roles. There is only one "Unit Photographers" which are connected to only Cinematography.
If you see anything else please enlighten me.
Besides, the qoute you gave me is from the notes. And if you add this you have only two exceptions. I checked the rest of the notes. It seems that unit crew is allowed with two exceptions. No mention of special edition crew.
Maybe this has been covered in the forum. But it's not in the rules (anymore). This is very strange, since unit crew and special edition crew allways has been a NO NO.

I believe when there was a discussion about Terminator 2 a while ago, that now that we have dividers we are able to credit "special edition" crew as long as they still follow the cast & crew rules and are separated by a divider in the actual end credits.
Unit crew are still not allowed at all.
Could you be more specific about what kind of credit the user is trying to add? It maybe helpful to discuss it (or maybe just start another 20 page attackfest!)

This has never been in the rules.  It is a 'fantasy rule' that was created based on the two 'unit crew' positions that are specifically noted in the crew chart.  It went from "don't include these guys" to "don't include any unit crew".

He is trying to add special edition crew. And justifies it with since there has allready been a mistake with letting one in the rest of them should get credited as well. I would say this crew member should be removed. But he is apparently right according to the rules.

As it is now. I had to change my NO vote to yes, since this is not covered in the rules (Anymore?). Maybe it's just me hallucinating, but I was positive this was covered in the rules before. Anyway this needs to be attended.

And Skip, if all you are going to do is come in here with rolling eyes, I suggest you don't post. If you don't have anything usefull to say. Apparently not

You do have the opportunity to vote neutral if you believe a NO would be a violation against the rules.

Skip, state your mind or stop posting. You obviously won't contribute to this discussion. So why do you post? To get your post count even higher?

I am against posting neutral. I have never done it, and don't intend to either. I only use yes or no vote.

If it is special edition crew and they're identified as such in the end credits, then I'd say a yes vote was in order - you're right that there's nothing in the rules against it.

I'm curious as to why you don't like the neutral vote - I've used it quite a few times myself where I can't see anything wrong with a submission, but at the same time don't feel that it's a submission I'd want to support (picking one coo over another on co-productions for example).

I've voted neutral on submissions with the "Common Name" crap or the "Birth Year" fiasco included, because they aren't some thing that have been laid down by the rules. They are "works in progress" according to Ken himself, and I don't want junk in my database that - in all likelihood - will have to be changed at some point down the road.

Why should I state my mind, to be fought with and abused even more by YOU, which you have already demonstrated a penchant for. I don't think so...you proved my point quite nicely, thank you.

The contribution referred to by Pompel is for "The Abyss - Special Edition" made by me. There are two versions available on this DVD - the original theatrical release and the special edition (director's cut if you will). The cast section is identical for both versions, but in the end of the special edition version you get crew listings of people involved in the Special Edition. These credits are not identified as second unit crew but credited on the same basis as the crew for the theatrical version - give me one good reason why they should not be included in the db?! And Director's cuts and Special Editions do not count as a Special Feature (ref. Kevins post).

As for being attacked by the contributor, Pompel, you have on several occasions voted no on contributions based on non-existing rules and personal opinions. On most occassions I have PM'ed you and tried to explain that you are voting against the rules, but you have thus far failed to take the hint (with the exeption of this time  ). I am FED UP with morons bending the rules to suit their own need and I will post a complaint regarding your blatant disregard for the rules when voting. I reckon I am not the only one having this problem with you. You even admit that you vote no without having checked if your vote is violating the rules!

And for the record; the existing profile for "The Abyss" contained so many errors that I checked the cast listing against IMDB, and lo and behold - it matched to the letter..

Why?  You are under no obligation to vote on everything that comes down the pike.
