Dear friends,

I’ am sorry but I will stop contributing to this database. Until last month none of my contributions where rejected, but from this month on most of them where rejected because of:

Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

I am very sorry but this is useless to me without further information, I know that my contributions are correct. I always add complete new contributions and no chances to existing profiles.
Probably the contribution rules are made a bit to strict now. Anyway it’s no fun for me anymore.

Goodbye

Have you tried PMing Gerri to get some more info?

She will probably be able to give you some more info about exactly which part of the profile is missing source info.

Hard for anyone here to help point out any potential problems without being able to see your contributions, or what notes you include.

Phil:

There are numerous poossibilities, I haven't seen any Contributions from you so I can't shed any direct light on the topic.

Your comment is very general. You say your data is correct...but is it...the Rules tell us where to get data from, especially Cast and Crew. Are you including (uncredited) data without documentattion for each and every entry? Are you entering data as prescribed in the Rules? We do NOT use IMDb or any other third party data source. Are you talking about NEW data or modifying old data.

I would like to be more help but its hard without having seen any of your contributions. Here is one thought for you. If you are modifying old data, then watch tyour Contributions as voters are required to leave a note to try to help guide you and the screeners. Never mind I just noted your comment relative to new Contributions

I think what Phil the Mill doesn't realise is the fact that EVERYBODY has to provide the source of all inforamtion when contributing ANY information concerning any DVD. That includes NEW contributions as well.

Like quite a few other contributors I'm all for it, at least I or the next person will know where the original info came from.

I can't understand what is the problem, all you have to do is to provide your source this is not really hard to write this.

Where you got the general info ? The DVD jacket, write it
Where you got the cast and the crew ? The movie credit, write it

You make a change to an existing profile. Just give a reliable source for the change

My number of contribution had decrease since the month of may, but the new rule have nothing to do with that (to make a long story short I lost my job, so I have less money). You are not the only one who use the database, so it's normal that some things are asked.

You don't want to contribute that's your choice, but don't cry about it here. We are not in kindergarden ...

I understand very well what you mean. I have exactly the same feeling, and wrote a thread about that one month ago (Isn't contribution system going in a wrong way?)

It is rather difficult to explain here that too much rules aren't good, because many users will flame you, but I did as you, I stopped contributing, and send a long PM to Ken to explain why. He didn't answer whether he agreed or not.

Phil the Mill:

I don't know if you are aware that they now require sources for all info even on new submissions.  A few spoil it for the majority (some were using sources that were inaccurate because they could copy and paste).  But it actually isn't that difficult to do:

example:
Title,Cast and Crew taken from DVD credits (Because that is where the rules say it must come from)
Overview, Audio and Video info taken from DVD case.(unless the case is wrong then the source is the DVD)
Cover scans done by me.(So they know you didn't just download pics from another web site)
And any other info you feel is necessary.

This just tells them the info did not come from a source that is copyrighted info and could get invelos in trouble.  If you were already aware of this and still choose not to contribute that is up to you, but just the way you worded it I felt you were unaware that this now applies to new contributions too.

As for the 'generic' answer, I am assuming it is because they are too busy with contributions to answer every one specifically.  Once you get the "sources" all set, then 99% of them will probably be the same because of the rules, so just make a copy and paste it as a 'generic' contribution notes.  There will probably be a few exceptions but for the most part the source is cut in stone.

I hope you reconsider.  I think it is just a matter of putting in the notes, such as my example and everything will be "fun" again.  I think once you get an specific answer to why they were rejected, you will find it is a simple fix and you won't have the problem anymore!!!!!  I will bet it is all the same missing data....I'll even bet Skip's paycheck on it.

I have too. All I will do now is vote on others. Under my other nic I had many submissions. I have tried a few here and they were voted ok at 100%, yet get declined with the same message everyone else gets. Not worth my time to submit anymore. Mostly new releases anyway I would think. Have more fun voting.

Funny, I never have any problems. Of course, I follow the rules.

Oh yeah, and I don't get petulant when one doesn't get accepted.

Oh well.

I guess you missed the recent statement from Gerri or Ken Cole that from now on we have to provide sources for ALL of our contributions - even for NEW titles.  That wasn't always so - in the past you could submit a new title and didn't even have any place to add comments if you wanted to.

If you get "the same message everyone else gets" you need to list your sources for all of the data.

I get most of my submissions approved, even a few with 'no' votes. Just list where the data comes from.
