This plugin uses the Brother bPAC SDK for label printing on compatible Brother / Ptouch devices. The label templates must have been created in Ptouch Editor 3 or 4 format. Labels may include up to 1 EAN or UPC barcode block and up to 1 image block.

Release 1.2 supports printing a label for the selected DVD profile or printing labels for flagged DVDs. A copy of each label is saved as a 600 dpi image for use with other applications. The bmp images are saved in {DVDPro}\plugins\PouchLabel\.

The plugin is available for download here:

This plugin is installed by unpacking PTLabelInstall.zip and executing PTLabelInstall.exe. As with any software installation, proper care should be taken during installation, such as stopping all other unnecessary programs and making a backup of critical data, such as your DVD Profiler database.

The following requirements must be met in order to use this plugin:

(1) You must have a bPAC compatible print driver installed on your system (Windows XP or Vista). To print the labels, you must also have a compatible printer installed. See the Brother web site.

(2) You must have the bPAC Client software installed. This can be downloaded from the Brother web site.

(3) You must have created labels with the Ptouch Editor version 3 or 4.

Each label may contain one or more text objects, up to 1 barcode object, and up to 1 image object.

If a barcode object is found, a barcode is created. You are responsible for building and selecting a template that is appropraite to the selected DVD profile (e.g. EAN or UPCA). The upc code from DVD Profiler will be filled in by the plugin.

If an image object if found, the front cover thumbnail image is used from DVD Profiler. *** Deleted*** If no objects are found that match the supported fields, a default label will be constructed consisting of the barcode image, title, rating and collection number. *** Deleted as of 1.3 ***.

Text objects may be placed anywhere on the label. In order to tell the plugin what data to use from DVD Profiler, you must use exact spelling of the text objects, and preceed that name with an "!". Any other text will be left alone and treated as standalone text within the label.

Text Objects Supported (English only, case sensitive):

!UPC = DVD Profiler profile ID (12 or 13 digits)

!Fornatted UPC = DVD Profiler Formatted UPC field

!Title = DVD Profiler Title field

!Sort Title = DVD Profiler Sort Title field

!Original Title = DVD Profiler Original Title field

!CollNum = DVD Profiler Collection Number field

!Rating = DVD Profiler Formatted Rating field

!Media = will print DVD or HD DVD or BluRay from profile data

!SRP = DVD SRP field

!PricePaid = DVD Profiler price paid from personal information

!Edition = DVD Profiler Edition field

!Genren = coded as !Genre1, !Genre2, etc. - specific genre entry

!Castn = coded as !Cast1 or !Cast2, etc. - specific cast members

Method of Operation
After having installed the appropraite software and creating a template:

  • Select a DVD profile

  • Click Tools/Print P-Touch Label or Click on the PTouch toolbar icon

  • Select the template to be used

  • Review the preview image

  • Click Ok or Cancel

  • New in release 1.2:
A new menu option allows printing multiple (flagged) labels. You may also choose to preview each label, or only preview the first label before printing.

Note: There is no way to cancel printing without preview, so be careful if you choose to bypass label preview.

    New in release 1.3:
DVD Profiler fields to be substituted into lables must now be prefixed with "!" (exclamation point).

    Sample UPCA Label:

    I tested the Plugin.

It works perfectly.  Mediadogg made the plugin and I tested various templates everything works perfectly.

That wouldn't be hard to do. Can you tell me a bit about exactly what you would use it for? The reason I ask is that except for the barcode image, this plugin has nothing (nor will it have in the future) that the DVDPro Reports doesn't have already. The image that is generated is stored as PreviewLabel.bmp in the \plugins\PtouchLabel folder if you want to play with it right away. You can print that .bmp file to any printer.

For a future upgrade I had considered allowing the ability to create a set (by flagged profiles) of images of the barcode and / or label, as profileid.label.bmp and profileid.bar.bmp. Would that be useful?

I finally got this working after I got caught out on some things - mostly contributed to not reading your instructions properly...

But there is one thing I need: In a future update, could you make it som you can print labels for multiple DVD's in one go? It's a little boring sitting and doing it for just one at a time...

Heh - sounds like you're already working on it...  So, tomorrow I will need to find a place to buy some labels...

    Hi mediadogg,

I have been using this a while now and love it, but I have made a few changes (just to the design) to suit my collection.  Is there any way you could add a few more fields\details for it to automatically populate?  I also add DVD Genre, Top Acotrs etc.

I would be happy to share some of my previous labels with you to show some alternative if you would be interested.  You have the knowledge and the skill that I don't.

    cheers

Oh, please do! I'm getting close to starting work on an upgrade to add multi-label printing. I would be happy to put some other goodies in also. Send me a PM with your ideas, and I'll give you the address where to send the templates.

Well, for what it's worth, this is the label I came up with:

The collection-number is turned so that it can be "twisted" on the spine - like this:

The part with my name and phonenumber are ofcourse hard-coded, but if you want the template, just let me know...

So now, I'm just waiting for the update that can do multiple labels in one go so I can do this to all of my DVD's...

Oh, if you have the time, could you please add Price Paid to the supported text objects?

Cool. Yeah, I want some template samples. I'll PM you with where tio send them. Glad you did that example Rander, because the multi-label code I just finished still has the label preview in the loop - of course that won't work if you are printing a whole bunch. So I have to put in some kind of option to turn preview on or off. Price paid - you got it.

I finally got around to play with this new version, and it is great! However, there is a small bug I found: Genres works a little TOO good! If I put to genre-boxes on the label, Genre1 and Genre2, it works fine - until I get to a movie that has no genre2 - then it just prints "Genre2" on the label rather than just leaving it blank...

Other than that, I'm a happy camper! Now I inly need labels - they where shipped yesterday (after three weeks on backorder), so monday or tuesday, I should be printing - unless Ken has a surprise in store for monday, but I doubt that..

Also, it appears that the Genre-filed isn't reset between labels...

If I flag five DVD's and select to print, it prints them in the order 5-3-4-1-2. I can live with that, but if a movie has a Genre2 and the next one doesn't, it re-uses the previous. In this case, label one (#5) has a correct Genre2 of "Adventure". Label two (#3) has no Genre2, but gets "Adventure" printed...

I'm not using the Cast-feature, but I would suspect it to be the same thing...
