Hi all members.

I wonders why it's so many different spelling on same person in the database.

For example Chow Yun Fat

I see 4 different:
Chow Yun Fat
Chow Yun-Fat
Yun Fat Chow
Yun-Fat Chow

And it's a problem if i wanna look what movies i have with him in DVD Profiler and double click on his name on my movie The Killer: The Criterion Collection, there his name is Yun Fat Chow in the database, and i get 3 hits when i click on him via The Killer.

And when i looking at Hard Boiled: The Criterion Collection his name is Chow Yun-Fat and i get 10 hits in my collection.

I know it's hard to really know what name is first and what's last, but everywhere i look his name is Chow Yun Fat, sometimes Chow Yun-Fat.

Let me point you to a couple threads (here
and here) that, if you haven't read them, will only add to your confusion.

There so many spellings because there at least that many spellings in the film credits as you have listed in your post.

If the most common form used in our database can be determined via the Credit Lookup DB Tool you can use that name as the common base name and then overlay the actual name he was Credited As in the film.

The name everyone sees must be the name from the film credits, per the Contribution Rules.

If you can provide evidence for a common form please submit updates to the profiles so we can all share in your work.  If you can't, or don't want to, prove a most common name you can update you profiles locally as you desire so that they all match.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

You can use the "Credited As" field to link these up. Edit a profile and go to Cast. Select one of his roles. You'll see an "Edit Role" button near the bottom of the screen. If you click on that, you'll see a "Credited As" field. This is where you would list his name as it appears in the credits. That's the easy part.

First you need to choose which of these names is his most frequent name in the Invelos database. Use the Credit Lookup Tool. Input all of those names you listed above and see which one is most credited.

I checked them out and these are the results:
Chow Yun Fat 29
Chow Yun-Fat 157
Yun Fat Chow 11
Yun-Fat Chow 76

Therefore, Chow Yun-Fat appears to be the name to use for Invelos purposes (unless you can prove that enough of these credits are wrong to the extent that another name would be most credited).

So assign Chow Yun-Fat as the actor for each of the roles in your database. Use "Credited As" as noted above to show the proper credited name.

Now when you click on any of those roles, they will all be linked up through use of the one name, Chow Yun-Fat.

I see tweeter typed faster than I did and linked to some of the things I was just searching for, so I'll close and post for now.

It's not confusing at all. All one needs to understand is that the foundation for our database is As Credited, which simply means what you see On the screen is what you enter. Now we do have an alias system which incorporates Credited As and what we call a Lookup Tool. Take some time to study these and I think it will quickly become very clear, and of course reading the rules should provide some help as well.
