Yes I know, I've been here a week and I've already made mistakes, is there an easy way to renumber the  entire collection? Or does this have to be done on each individual disk?

Many Thanks
Jonathan

Go to the "Collection" menu and "Reassign Collection Numbers". Hopefully you will find an option there that matches what you want

Under the menu "Collection" there is an entry "re-assign collection numbers" where you can re-assign the whole collection or just parts of it.

Haha! that was funny!

Sorry for being so thick!

Ok, so how will this work for box sets with child profiles? at the moment my TV box sets have numbers whilst the child profiles don't, my movie boxes don't have numbers but the child profiles do.

I'll probably number by purchase date, the system I use is that the individual season box sets in tv collections, don't have numbers and therefore won't have purchase dates, but movie boxsets, even though they don't have numbers do have purchase dates, the children (the individual movies) do not have purchase dates!

How do I do that then?

I re-assigned my collection numbers several times. AFAIR Profiles without a purchase date get a low collection number if you reassign by date. So I adjusted some purchase dates manually, to get consecutive numbers for parent and child profiles (right click in profile: personalize)! Maybe this is a kind of workaround for you.

Another method of resolution:

1. Make a full backup of your entire collection
2. Reassign your existing collection and test the different options in the menu.
If it's a complete mess: restore your backup!

Reassign all collection numbers but don't tick the assign where set to "none". That way, any profile with a collection number will be reassigned and any profile without a number assigned will remain blank.

From my use of the renumbering (I don't have the program available right now so can't test it) I don't think you can have it ignore dvds in the process...but it may skip them if you have them filtered out.

If that doesn't work you probalby need to just renumber parts of it at a time.

Though one other option i just thought of (that should work) is to make a backup of your collection (probably a good idea before you start renumbering anyway) then what you can do is remove the profiles that you don't want collection numbers on from your database and then renumber the rest by purchase date. Then you can restore from your backup, selecting to restore only selected profiles, and restore all the profiles that you removed (removing any collection number from the profile after restore if needed)

Hope that helps, I can go into more detail if you need, or possibly try it out later today to give more precise instructions.

*edit* took me so long to post this (got distracted) seems some others posted. I'm sure between the three suggestions you should be able to get what you're looking for. 8ball's looks to be the easiest, but I'd still make a backup before starting and after...can never have too many backups (well I guess you can if they are outdated backups)

I don't tend to do this often, but I seem to recall that one of the options beside the collection number edit field is a checkbox that says "None". I thought the intent of this was to ensure that a specific profile wouldn't suddenly get assigned a number during the renumbering process.

Great, thanks.. now I have the song stuck in my head.
