I own both die hard 4.0 and mission impossible III. Both feature the actress Maggie Q.

But in die hard 4.0 she is listed as Maggie M. Quigly and in M.I. III as Maggie Q. Both options are available in de the cast database. In IMDB both names are also listed, but now you cannot find all the movie this actress has played in in your collection because both names are used.

What are the rules? Is this allowed or must one name be used for an actor or actress in the database.

This is a situation where you would use "credited as" to link the two profiles.
If you're only worried about fixing it locally then all you have to do is pick which name you prefer her to be known as and go to the differing profile, replace the actress's name to what you want, then in the "credited as" box type the name she was actually credited as.
So you would end up with either Maggie M Quigly credited as Maggie Q or vice versa.

if you want to fix it in the online it takes a bit more work as you have to provide documentation that the name you've chosen is the most commonly used name.

Edit: there's something called the Credit Lookup tool under the database link which will let you search the entire database for how many times a name is used. However you have to judge the results as it depends on all the entries for that name being accurate.

One name should be used: the most-credited name variant. Invelos own "credit lookup" tool on this site (under "Database") should help in establishing which name variant is the most common. In this case, I'd use Maggie Q. In those rare cases where she's credited with one of the other name variants, you should use the "credited as" feature to show this.

Edit: northbloke beat me to it.

I've just had a look at the Credit Lookup tool and Maggie Q beats Maggie M. Quigley hands down (something like 200 to 90), so I agree with Tim, if you want to fix it and contribute it, go for Maggie Q.

Just checked the end credits of Die Hard 4.0 she is in the end credits as Maggie Q so you don't need to use the "Credited As" just change it to Maggie Q as that is how she is credited of coarse any other films where she is credited with one of here other names
Maggie Quigley, Maggie M. Quigley, Ly My Ky, Mei-Kei Lei, Meiqi Li,
you can use the "credited as" for those.

Richard:

Rule #1 everything in the cast and Crew data is built around AS CREDITED, that means how is the person creditted ON SCREEN. If that data as starting point is not correct, then NOTHING else that we can ever do will be correct, it will throw Credited As (the Alias system) out of whack and result in a bad database.

Skip
