Well, the question would be best answered by Mr N. Burton himself. Similar to this discussion the question is whether he himself carries the french or the americanized version of this name.

there is already a Noel Burton in 1729 in Virginia (So I would not call that a French name)
there is also an actor Noel Burton born in Wales, so I don't think this is a French name either.

Dermot Hennelly
Acting, 1968
I did not graduate, but I spent 5 years at UBC, most of the time acting in the Freddy Wood mainstage shows. I left before graduating to pursue a professional career, in England and in Canada. I now live in Montreal, where I work mainly in film and TV, do a spot of directing and a bit of writing. Was artistic director of The Open Theatre Co., Vancouver,1982 - 1986, and White Rock Summer Theatre, 1987. I now act under the name Noel Burton.

so far i'am not abble to identify if above is the actor we are looking for.

Actually it does not matter what his actual name is. Ken himself clarified that he only wants the most commonly credited form.

Quoting Ken Cole:
Quote:
The lookup tool is not to be blindly trusted, however it does outweigh other sources, including autographs.  The common name is not intended to always reflect the "real name", but the most commonly credited name.

However, if a user documents errors in the database where the credit is not entered properly, that can and should be considered.  Better yet, correct the entries, assuming you own the discs in question, thereby correcting the lookup results.

bold by me.. see almost half way down the page for his above statement.  So for our purposes it doesn't matter how he writes it or prefers it. Ken even said above that he wouldn't even go with a person's signature for a correct name... that he wanted most commonly credited form. So if he is actually credited as Noël Burton more (which it don't look like) then it would be the common name. going by everything here though... it looks like Noel Burton will be right.

I don't know if it was his intention, but Surfeur's post made me realise:
If the end credits say NOEL, then we have no way of telling if they mean Noel or Noël!

Yes, that is why I was sweating... In fact, if he had been french (same problem than FRANCOIS TRUFFAUT which is undoubtly François Truffaut), it would have been Noël (first name given, at the origin, to people born on Christmas Day). But I don't know whether this name is used in other countries in an adapted form (Noel). BTW how Noel is exactly pronounced ? (Noël is "No-el").

Over here in the UK we pronounce Noël the same way, but we generally use it only to mean the Christmassy "Noël".
We tend to spell the name simply as Noel and don't put any emphasis on the "el" so it comes out sounding a bit like "No-ul"

Well, except for Noël Coward, who is never "Noel"...

So this would mean:
NOEL = Noel
NOËL = Noël

So this would mean NOEL = Noël or Noel, we don't know...
