Just a quick question.  I've just downloaded a profile (Black Books Series 3) that was submitted using the Disc ID instead of the UPC.  But I don't see any reason for not using the UPC as it appears to be unique.  Maybe this is a common occurrence and I just never noticed before, but, if not, should this be submitted with the UPC? or am I making something out of nothing?  Thanks for your guidance.

It is a series - a BBC comedy. There is a complete set available that includes series 1, 2 and 3.  But the art work included with the profile is from the individual release of series 3.

Yes, it looks to me like it should be added by UPC... however I'd leave this one in the database too (Though I agree with you the artwork is incorrect) because when someone adds the 3 disc 'complete' set it may well be required if it's a digipak (as the UK release is).

I would just do a Change UPC to the one on the cover and contribute using "source, previously submitted and approved profile entered by Disc ID instead of UPC; details verified from disc and case as appropriate"

Though I can understand the confusion given that BBC Video distribute it in the US.

Thanks for the help.  I'm going to add cast and crew and then contribute it this weekend.

If possible do first the changes on cast and crew to the disc-id profile according the movie credits on dvd. contribute those changes to the disc-id dvd.
Change the Disc-id by the change upc/ean option from the bottom of the menu dvd.
Add your cover and additional changes for that DVD (audio, sub, features or whatever you found differing from the disc-id profile)

thanks in advance
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

I did the UK profiles a while ago for this series. It might save you time if you want to copy cast & crew from them.

Maybe the original contributor got a used or off-rental copy of this title which didn't have a UPC so the only way he could contribute it was with the disc ID?

No, they contributed the profile and the scans.  The scans clearly show the UPC too...  <shrug>
