Apparently that is not necessarily the case.

The most recent X-men release has the letter "X" with three "blades" in front and then the words "The Last Stand" in the foreground.  The word 'Men' does not appear anywhere on the front cover, except in the tagline.

Reading from "background to foreground, this would yield 'XIII: The Last Stand".

The current profile currently has 'X-Men: The Last Stand'.

This is not the title on the front cover, so I submitted a change (Blu-ray version) to replace the existing title with 'XIII: The Last Stand'.

As you might expect, voting was split: 4 yes and 5 no.

The change was declined.

The only thing that I can conclude from this is that the Rules are actually not Rules after all, but merely suggestions.

Have you tried "X III: The Last Stand"?

We don't write "Star WarsIII" after all and "XIII" is roman, meaning "13".

When it comes to the german cover, I'd tend to "X-Men: Der letzte Widerstand" without the III, but I don't know how the american cover actually looks like.

As Douglas Bader said "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men"

If there were never exceptions there would be no need for a word for it.

Sorry Hal, but I am all with the Screeners on this one. In my view, they applied the Rules but they also used pragmatism in interpreting them in this special case.
I also agree with DJ Doena: the three blades on the X stand for "X III" (two separate words), not "XIII". Covers sometimes use typographic effects to show that there are two separate words, so we have to take typographic effects into account.

Thank you Grave.  I've never bothered having a signature or tagline before, but that is a great quote so I had to use it.

Yes, an other user said the same thing and I agreed with him on that.

It's quite simple Hal....you take the title from the cover however if there isn't a a title on the front or it's somehow modified/changed etc. then you use another source...and leave it up to the votes and screeners...seems simple to me. How many 1000's of dvd's are there and a case like this is very rare. Let's not make more of it than we have to...the world is not coming to an end as a result of this.

Actually, my point is that the Rule change that tells us to take the title from the front cover was a mistake, IMHO.

Distributors do all kinds of dumb things on the cover that have nothing to do with the actual title!

They are not that rare and you completely missed the point!

He might've missed yours (though I don't think so, at least not completely, I'd say) but at the same time raised another that's at least equally important to take into consideration, IMO, that is.

Nope...I didn't miss your point Hal...I realize you are saying they are suggestions and not rules...perhaps they are rules with exceptions for common sense maybe? And despite what you say or think, those types of covers are rare and we can deal with them quite easily without the rules or contributions falling apart.

As far as I understood the rule on the titles, the front cover got involved to determine titles for foreign languages.

Why do you abuse this rule for an American title? - For me it's obvious, that the title is "X-Men: The Last Stand" as stated in the copyright notice...

The rule was changed a while back ago to always take the title from the front cover.
