OCB?
Nothiing?

It's in the end credits of Space 1999, season 2, episode 1.

SPACE 1999
based on a format by
Gerry and Sylvia Anderson

In other episodes they are credited with "created by".

Nothing.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Most users - myself included - tend to use "original characters by" for "created by" credits. We desperately need a "created by" credit in DVD Profiler, though. If they're credited as such in all other episodes, with just this one "based on a format by" exception, than I'd also use it for that.

I agree with TIM. A simular question is already asked:
UFO series credits question

What about "Developed By"?

I did the profile for the UFO series and I left the "Format By" crew off since it wasn't clear by the rules.

I would go with Original Material By, since the rules say to use this when, "adapted from another medium." As for Original Characters By, there is nothing indicating that the characters appeared in an another work, such as a movie, where the screenwriter uses the the character created by someone else and puts them in another story created by the screenwriter.

We shouldn't be doing this until, Ken and Gerrie make that credit available. "Original Characters By" or "Based on Characters by," which is listed in the rules, state that this credit is only used if the character created by someone else is used in another medium. For example if I was to write a screenplay about Harry Potter and friends, J.K. Rowling would be credited as "Original Characters By."

Is it really a surprise? Any question here never receive a definitive answer usually, sometimes Gerri or Ken answer but it's really really rare.

Just do like me : use common sense, don't ask and don't contribute. Less trouble this way...

P.S : Enry, the comment is not directed at you it's just a general comment on the database

I'm just pointing out what most users do. A huge amount of TV show profiles use OCB for "created by". And indeed, I do too, because the creators are too important to me to leave out. Note that such credits come in two forms: either "created by XXX, written by YYY" (I use "original characters by" and "writer") or "created by XXX, story by YYY, screenplay by ZZZ" (I use "original characters by", "original material by" and "screenwriter"). I'm not saying it's absolutely perfect, but the argument could be made that it's actually correct: creating a show, for a large part, is creating its characters. Gerry and Sylvia Anderson DID actually create the characters of 'Space: 1999'. Hence: original characters by. But I agree that a "created by" credit would be (even) better. I fully expect Ken WILL get around to this one day, and when he does, I'll be able to change those OCB-credits without any further work.

You can't really use OMB, because that's often already in use when the credits are in the "created by XXX, story by YYY, screenplay by ZZZ" format. Using OCB is the best way to keep the creators separate from the writers of the actual episodes. Also, it's not so much "adapted from another medium", it's "adapted" from episode one. This is the usual format for TV show writing credits: the first episode is "written by" so-and-so (no creator credited), and all subsequent episodes carry a "created by" credit for that same original writer(s). And by writing that first episode, what did that writer do? He created the characters!

Good example: Columbo. That character was created by Richard Levinson and William Link, and they get a "created by" credit for that for every 'Columbo' episode and/or TV-movie that followed. Again: every episode has it's own story, but the character (and with it: the show itself) was created by Richard Levinson and William Link. Assuming that one would like to track those credits in DVD Profiler, "original characters by" seems utterly logic.

But at the end of the day, I think we all agree that we need a "created by" credit in DVD Profiler. I already asked for it in my of my first posts after the change to Invelos - have a look here. FYI: note that in that same thread, a few posts down, Skip confirms that the consensus at that time was to use OCB - I'm still following that consensus until we finally get that "created by" credit.

In the past I had the feeling that many accept OCB for the Creators, at least until we have a "Created by" field, and that the Screeners do approve such profiles.
