| Posted: | | | | Ok...at the risk of opening the proverbial can o' worms I have some questions on the new crew.
What constitutes a valid entry for:
Visual Effects Make-up Effects
Would Visual Effects Supervisor be Ok? Would Special Effects Make-up?
Also, for Visual Effects would the effects Studio be valid, eg. Stan Winston Studios rather than the endless list of effects crew (see Iron Man credits).
I realise that this is the sort of discussion that could go on forever, but it's better to ask now IMO.
Also - Ken - will there be an amendment to the Contribution Rules to coincide with the official 3.5 release? |

| Posted: | | | | Visual effects I can see being an awkward to tie down as I see it being valid for both individuals (Ray Harryhausen) and companies (Weta). Also, does the new crew actually say Make-up Effects or just Make-up as they are two different things, and I have to admit I thought it said Make-up only (I'm at work so can't check)? I'd personally prefer Make-up Effects (get all those Tom Savini credits in) I would have thought that the rules forum should currently be a-buzz with activity! |

| Posted: | | | | I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but since this is discussing the beta, shouldn't the thread be in the beta forum? I thought we weren't supposed to discuss betas outside that area until they're released. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. | Posted: | | | | Although the 3.5 additional crew are technically Beta items a general discusion is still good as it will allow others who choose not to use/download the Beta to know what is come, and throws the apt questions out to the whole community.
Just my 2 cents worth.

| Posted: | | | | I agree with Steve, after all we are discussing something that soon will be contributed a lot!And I think it's better to keep the Beta forum for bug reports - stuff that needs more attention from Ken. Thanks Pantheon, I'd only noticed the Make-up one, not the Effects one. The only way I can think of sorting these new credits is to say you can list individuals or companies, but if you list a company then you can't list anyone involved with that company. For example, if you have a film that credits both KNB EFX and Greg Nicotero, then either one gets the credit not both. And in situations like that I'd prioritise the company. Does that make sense? I don't want to duplicate the work that should be going on in the rules forum, but maybe we should start listing the various credits we've seen relating to each area, so we can see if there's a pattern or which ones should be discounted. Edit: just seen you post in the beta forum. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, I have no use for listing visual effects companies. I can see myself being interested in movies that Ray Harryhausen worked on, for example, but I really don't ever need to know all the films that ILM did. For any other current crew role, we don't list companies. Specifically I'm thinking of sound here. I don't know why we would suddenly reverse that principle simply because it's popular to farm out effects to some third party shop. There was a time when sound was farmed out and we just leave those entries blank. |

OK, the 3.5 rules now say NO "Studio/Company Names", so that's out of the way. But do we want to add individuals listed within those companies' credits? Specifically, I'm working on "Jumanji" (UPC 043396117426), and after all the individual credits, there's a section for ILM Crew, containing 3 "Visual FX Art Directors". I'm leaving them off this submission, but should they be included? ILM has its own big credit for "Special Visual FX & Animation" listed before main crew credits. These folks are outside contractors, but they did work on the film. ?!? This stuff gives me brain cramps.
