Wal-Mart Stores, which previously has championed the traditional day-after Thanksgiving Black Friday retail sales day, is reportedly set to sell the Magnavox Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player for $128, the lowest retail price for a BD player.

It was selling for $300 earlier this year. In the summer, Wal-Mart had a $100 off deal and it dropped to $200.  As far as I know, $128 is the lowest price yet for any Blu-ray player.

It is well known in the US, but not in Europe. The company's electronics division is (or used to be) owned by Philips.

Yeah, it should be but you never can tell with Walmart.  Many of the brand names they sell have a "Walmart version" which is as absolutely bargain-basement cheap as they can possibly make it (replacing standard metal parts with plastic, removing other standard features to make it slightly cheaper to produce, etc).  Some retailers are more worried about soiling their good name, so you actually get a decent product, but many "Walmart only" specials are different than the same model numbers sold elsewhere.  You will usually find a difference only in the serial number, or in the added letter to the product ID.  So this *may* be a good player, but look it up on some review sites first to be sure.

No Dolby HD or DTS-HD, but hey, what do you expect for 128 bones?

DD.
