| | Posted: | | | | I'm looking for my first HDTV this year. I can use up to a 32" due to space limitations. Looking for one for under $500.
I saw some at Walmart. I think I saw a Sanyo and a Vzio(SP??) for just under $400.
I never heard of that Vzio brand, but the picture quality looked good,as did the Sanyo.
Are any of those 2 good?
Plus what about that Best Buy exclusive brand, is that one any good?
I've also heard something where a line will develop on the screen or parts of the picture will become distorted or go black. Is that true?
Any suggestions for under $500 HDTVs? |

| | Posted: | | | | It all depends on the model. My father-in-law bought a Vizio and looking at his there is no way I would have ever bought it. I see alot of people buying the Vizio brand because it is so cheep in $ but in my opinion you get what you pay for. I think you can find a good brand for around $500 though. All the ones I have seen that are around $500 are 720p and if you are buying a HD for the Blu-ray movie experience then you want a 1080p. |

| | Posted: | | | | I picked up a 22" Vizio for the bedroom just after Christmas last year. Circuit City had them on sale for 1 day only for $199. At that price (reg $399), I couldn't pass on it. The sound is tinny, but I took care of that with a small pair of speakers. Picture quality is surprisingly good. Don't let the budget price deter you. My other set is a 65" Mistsu which I absolutely love -- turn out the lights and it's as if you're in your own private screening room. But I am very satisfied with my Viz and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Here's what CNET had to say about Vizio's 32" model: Vizio's VX32L HDTV may not be the least-expensive 32-inch flat-panel LCD on the market, but it's still quite affordable. Unlike most bargain-basement LCDs, however, this model provides a well-rounded feature set, including two HDMI inputs and a PC input along with plenty of picture controls. Those features, combined with perfectly acceptable picture quality, earn the VX32L HDTV our commendation as one of the best values at this screen size. |

| | Posted: | | | | You really can't beat a Vizio in price. The picture is great, but the sound is little. An issue they are working to resolve in newer realeases. I'm fixing to buy my 3rd Vizio. I have a 42" and a 47" Vizio and love them. I also have a Mit. 62" DLP. The Vizio's are much brighter. They are both LCD. The new one I'm after is the new 55" Vizio is comming out with.

| | Posted: | | | | Two brands that you should check out are Sharp and ViewSonic. While they are generally a bit higher in price than some of what you'll find at Walmart, K-Mart, and some of the other chain stores, you can often find them heavily discounted and they are excellent buys.
I bought a Sharp two years ago from TigerDirect for just under $500 that I love, and I got a ViewSonic of the same size for my mother last year for less than $450 that has an incredible picture. Sound on both is not an issue since we run sound through A/V multimedia receivers and good speakers, but the onboard sound of both is good.
Tax return time may also be upgrade time, since I'll be able to get 10 more inches of screen size for the same money since prices are down considerably over two years ago. | | | John
