Ive been thinking of buying some posters, but ive ran into a problem.

The posters i'm going to purchase are 40" x 27". The frames sold here are in cm's and in a diffrent ratio: 100 x 70cm (39,4" x 27,6"). At least the ones i've found.

So i most likely will have to order the frames from US, but the postage would probably be huge? I'm searching for cheap frames (under about 22€ / 30$ / 19£), was wondering if anyone else have ran into the same problem and know A Cheap european stores that sell frames in that size or B know US stores that dont have huge postal costs.

What I've done in the past when I brought over some posters from the US is to get a really large frame in Europe and then have the poster framed using a passe-partout or mat. Worked quite well.

Just a thought: a cheap and simple option would be to purchase these black plastic strips (don't know if this is a proper english... anyway, it's "julistelista" in Finnish). You simply slide a pair of those on top and bottom edges of the poster and you're done. These can probably be bought from just about any framing store in various lengths (in pairs, where one of two has a small loop from which you can attach the poster to a wall). You can easily cut them in desired length.

Of course the downside of these is that the poster is not under protective glass or plastic, but if that's not an issue, they are easily the most inexpensive and flexible option. Also, if your poster is folded, it won't look very good as the folds won't get "evened".

I have three (originally rolled) posters hanging on the wall at the moment, and they all look great with these strips. They are all modern cinema-used posters with very little collector value. More valuable items deserve proper framing, of course.

Well i dont much like using the mat's. Dont know why, but never liked them.

I'm slowly starting to go towards just making them myself. Just sent an inquiry to a company that sells glass, to see how much it would cost. Upside would be that my friend is studying to be an artisan, so he could make the frames at hes school. frames wouldnt cost much, back board would probaby be 5-10e a piece, so if i can get the glass with about <20€ a piece. I might go with custom made.

The plastic strips would be a last resort, if all else fails. If their cheap enough i might use them as a temporary solution though. As the posters themselve will burn a hole in my wallet, so i might have to postpone the frames for a later time. But i think the frames make them look a lot better.

I'm going to buy the posters from http://www.moviegoods.com so if anyone has used the store, would like to get your opinion on the store.

Edit:
Just  got a reply to my email, glass will cost bright 2mm glass is 28€/m² and matte 2mm glass is 35€/m².

That would make one frames glass to about 20€ or 25€, depending which glass i use. I'm thinking of matte to avoid glare, but still unsure.

www.wholesaleposterframes.com offer about the cheapest you are going to find.  www.hollywood posterframes.com has stuff that is of a better quality and looks better on the wall.

If you are looking for originals, do not buy from moviegoods.  They use pretty deceptive marketing strategies, especially for those who arent familiar with film paper.  If you want originals, look elsewhere.
