Personally, I don't see a problem with the case being contributed since the case is designed to hold the BluRay/DVDs from the Snow White release.  So it can still be profiled like any other release, in this sisuation the case was released before the discs.

However if Ken doesn't want it in the database he can always just delete it.

Since the profile is already in the database, I don't think your contribution is being declined because the contribution approver may feel that this shouldn't be in the database.  Did you receive any No votes from other members?

More than likely your contribution is being disapproved because the approver believes the current images are of better quality than the ones you're submitting and/or a number of No votes.

Here's a link to the current contribution notes:

Here are thumbnails of the currently accepted images:

EDIT:

It looks like there's already a profile for in the database for this steelbook for each of these UPCs (other two are listed under the Canadian locality).

4-00094-26695-3 - Free Steelbook Case with Snow White Pre-Order
4-00094-25721-0 - Pre-Order Blu-ray Combo Pack
4-00094-25712-8 - Pre-Order DVD Combo Pack

I'd think at most there should be only one profile for this one steelbook and not one for each UPC.

I bought the Limited Edition Diamond Collectors Set box. It had a UPC on an external sticker. Inside the box, along with all of the other goodies, is the standard BD+DVD release just like you would receive it if purchased separately. I'm profiling the "empty box" and the BD+DVD also. I've done this before with Disney box sets (Lion King comes to mind).

The difference between that and this is that this was sold separately as an empty case, it did not come as part of the set.  While it is designed to hold the discs, the discs come in their own case.

If I were to go to the store and buy an empty case, transfer my discs into them, could I use the UPC from the empty case to create a new profile?  I don't think I could so I am not sure why it is being done here.

Yes, I understand the differences. I'm not sure how I feel about the steelbook. It's certainly a unique (or rare) situation.

It's rare now, James but it appears to be a distinct change in marketing. IF this Steelbook were tied to a particular Snow White purchase then perhaps a case could be made for allowing it, but since the ONLY purchase requirement is Snow White, ANY copy of Snow White, then it cannot be included for pretty much the martian's reasons, that or we could conceivably have ANY Best Buy copy tied to the Steelbook, qand conceivably ANY UPC that matches the BB UPC being tied to the steelbook, whether it should or not. UPC's are based on, thus far, on security systems employed by the retail seller and there are at least three know security systems plus NONE, so any store using the same security system as BB would get the same stock as BB as well BUT not the Steelbook.

Like I said before, Invelos was absolutely correct in turning down the contribution. I fear we have seen the beginning of something new in retail. We saw it last week to some degree with the Wizard of Oz, with a whole bunch of previously unannounced exclusives at Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy just to name the ones I know about. I have absolutely no doubt we will see something very similar with the upcoming release of GWTW, and there is at least one exclusive planned for star Trek...and I bet we will see more.

I really fail to understand the big issue with having this in. I haven't checked this profile but the way I see it it can either be

1) a pretty much blank profile that just details the case and then the user can either
a) add the copy they bought as a box set contents or
b) copy the data from the copy they bought over to the case

or 2) a profile for the case that additionally contains the 3 discs (2 blu-rays and 1 dvd) It doesn't matter what blu-ray version you bought the 3 discs that come with it are the same its just the packaging that is different so all the details (save case type\upc and maybe one or two others; srp?) would essentially be the same as the any of the blu-ray sets

Every other time there is an exclusive case or extra disc in some version it's "how come we can't put this version in the database" or something along those lines. Now we have a way that those with the steelbook can include it because it has it's own upc and people are against it. I just don't understand why if you don't want the profile don't download it it. It's not hurting anyone.

If we look at this from the side of considering what makes DVD Profiler a more useful product, having this profile in the database is more benefiicial. There are those that will want the scans and the information in order to complete the data for the version of Snow White that they have, even if it was a two-part acquisition process.

I don't see how a blank profile for a case only makes Profiler more useful.  As was mentioned before, we profile features on discs, not cases.  There are sites out there that sell custom cases.  If I buy one, and transfer my discs to it, can I submit a profile for that?  I don't think I could but that is what is happening here.  Best Buy sold a custom case and nothing else.

It's more useful because the scans and other data (release date, etc) would be available for download to interested users. If it helps people profile their collection, I don't see the harm.

But all that data, with the exception of the cover scan, is already available in the profile for the version of the film they actually purchased.  I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

I think the cover scans are one of the primary and valuable things that users hope to get from DVD Profiler.

Yes, we can agree to disagree.

Well it looks like this won't be a one time thing.  Next up is "Up!" preorder the BluRay and get the Steelbook case when you preorder.

Futureshop (Canada) will have a limited set of 12 Disney Collectible Steelbooks.  I wouldn't be surprised if BestBuy here in the states also carries the cases (since Snow White and Up have already been made available).  Either way in Canada, it appears these steelbooks will officially come with discs.

I haven't posted in months and will probably regret this one as well, but here it goes.....

What some of you are saying isn't entirely accurate. This was not sold separately. It was a while-supplies-last "pre-order" freebie.

Invelos has approved a contribution for it. If you don't want the profile in your collection, don't download it.

EDIT: I'm already regretting this post.
