| Posted: | | | | hi all,
I'm fairly new to this program and I haven't found a solution yet. Maybe a kind soul is able to help me :-)
I have my own DVD's - and I have the ones I got when my Dad died. I wanna put them into my collection - but I want to have them separated so that I see immediately if a DVD is mine or was his. Is there a way I can do that? The only thing I came up with is that I tag his DVD's - but to me that's a bit uncomfortable.
Any help is appreciated. Thx in advance
regards... |

Just create a tag and mark each of your Dad's DVDs so that you can easily sort them in or out of your collection. The other route would be only if you are using the new Beta 3.6 which hopefully will be fully released soon (hint hint Ken ) which allows you to set up "Custom Collections". These are like having a whole new Tab in the vein of the All, Owned, Ordered, Wishlist tabs. You can label them what you want and even pick an icon you'd like to have represent that tab. I for instance use one for my Video Game collection. Works great! Oh and welcome to the forums! | | | "The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire | | | Last edited: by Vittra |

| Posted: | | | | A third method would be to create a complete new database for the DVDs of your Dad.
This is quite easy via DVDProfiler menu "File -> Open database -> New ..." You'll get a complete new database which is completely independent from your old one. The disadvantage to the tab solution (ver 3.6) is , that DVDProfiler can only open one database at a time and you sadly cannot open two instance of it. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Another possibility would be to catch the "second" collection in Ordered or Wishlist. There is a way to rename. But you get the "normal" use of this lost. (I can't test yet, perhaps you don't have all possibilities of the program in these tabs) |

hey, haven't thought of this, sounds great - thx, I'll try that :-) Another disadvantage of this is that you can only have ONE on-line collection and that you won't get updates for the collection you did NOT put online. |

Not quite correct. You cannot vote on updates to profiles that are not in your online collection. But you can update them the usual way. At least that worked with my testing database from some time ago. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
