| Posted: | | | | Between collections and movies I have about 1245 DVD catalogued, which makes my database with 1.549.890 KB (Backup) in size, which makes the operation of the program a little slow, is there any way to lighten the process without losing information? Already did the utilities that are in the options. Thanks |

With 1200 profiles my backups are 4,5MB (without pictures)[1] Quote: which makes the operation of the program a little slow, is there any way to lighten the process without losing information? I'm afraid not, only solution that comes to mind were to split up the database, but that would have repercussions on other things like the onlinelist. Quote: Already did the utilities that are in the options. Did you do a database-repair? Maybe there is something wrong with one of the tables. cya, Mithi [1] And even with picture, which aren't really "in the DB" and so are not that big a factor, it's only 275MB | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | Actually, it are the pictures that kill size. My db has around 3000+ titles and back-up is around 1.5 GB. But if you look into the data directory (use menu File->Open Database to see the location) you'll see that the Images folder (front and back covers) and Actors.BLB and Actors.BBK account neatly for 99% of the size. Not sure, I'm not the programmer, my guess is the Actors.* files are read on program start so these are part of the delay.
My guess, regularly defragging your drive (or at least the Actors.* files) might chip of some seconds of the program start. You can defrag on a file by file basis by using tools like Defraggler (probably more tools there, but I have that one). | | | Eric

| Posted: | | | | What did the trick for my database was a repair with the option to delete all "unused Cast/Crew" and unflagged "preserve Cast/Crew with images" | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Backup database (without images). Create new, empty DB. Restore backup into new DB. Move image files (<old DB directory>\Images) from old DB to new DB with Windows Explorer You'll see that some of the data files (especially the BLB files) have shrunken in size. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

But I can't seem to recall how to do that??? Do you mean use an old backup and select images only? | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. No, simply move the Images folder with Windows Explorer from old DB location to new DB location. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online
