I'm seeing a lot of contributions for the actor Patrick Stewart, referring to this accepted BY posting.

The cast and crew databases are two completely different entities. The actor Clint Eastwood has nothing to do with the director Clint Eastwood as far as DVDP is concerned.

Patrick A(lexander) Stewart is - according to IMDb - a crew only guy and has never acted.

So why do people attribute the actor (Picard, Xavier) with his 1940 BY when there's no actual need?

PS: In French the "d" in Picard is silent. The guy is pronounced "Picar", not "Picart".

Because the common name for both is Patrick Stewart - see here - and Patrick Stewart (Picard) has at least a few credits for Crew roles, I believe. He's the director on certain Star Trek episodes for a start.

This was decided by Gerri Cole years ago...

The birth year will be accepted to differentiate between a cast and crew member. In your example below, Marc Warren is a valid birth year.

This is just another example of Invelos not bothering to update the rules when they make a decision. If they had updated it at the time, then this thread wouldn't have been required and I guess many PM chats not needed. I was myself PM'ed when i voted no to something like this not knowing the ruling, and have had to PM several people who have voted no for me for the same reason.

All because of the ten seconds it would've taken to make the rule a little clearer.

Gerri may have ruled that way, but I still don't see the actual point of this. Why would someone go through all this trouble and contribute lots of profiles to distinguish the actor PS from <insert nothing here>?

I can understand the usage of the BY for PS's crew credits but why bother with the cast list?

But Picard is a born Frenchman which was confirmed in-universe in the episode Family. And a Shakespeare Company actor should be able to pronounce the name of his character properly even when the actor's British.

Well...  I can only speculate but... Ken and Gerri know that a lot of us wanted a link between cast and crew... so like when you click on name Stephen King in one of his cameos in the cast it would also show his crew only work as well... so who knows... maybe it is that way for when they get that done.
