| Posted: | | | | Hi I am a bit at a loss here, as the Edition field according to the guidelines: Quote: Edition The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections (for example The Criterion Collection, Widescreen, Full-Screen Edition, Director's Cut). It's usually safe to use one of the built-in selections if appropriate. If you are using a non-standard edition, take it from the DVD box, and ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title.
Edition is generally displayed on the front cover, but may also be gathered from the back cover if present.
Do not enter media types (such as "Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital Copy") into the edition or title field. Where would you place 3D moniker? You're a not allowed to place it in the title field. Under the current guidelinis one can argue for and against using the Edition field to write 3D, but if the release features both 3D/2D (as separate discs) are they not 3D+2D? I Know of a few titles where the authoring allows the movie to be both 2D and 3D on a single disc, but they don't encode the discs like that anymore So what would you suggest - unless Invelos/DVD Profiler will add the 3D moniker to the title, if you have checked the 3D box in features & format, but again if you have 2 discs ..? Those titles could be created as box sets containing both discs? Any thoughts? | | | Last edited: by TrustNo1CSM |

There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. | Posted: | | | | Well I sort disagree with these guidelines, if a 3D Movie was released in theatres it was released as both 3D and 2D, and the 3D monniker is a statement to edition/type rather than the title itself an exception is of course "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas", which according to imdb was released with 3D in the title where as Minions 3D blu-ray cover clearly states 3D in the title albeit it was released in theatres as "Minions" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2293640/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1), as a purist on this matter I find it wrong to enter this into the database as "Minions 3D" in the title field Oh by the way thanks for finding the previous thread, for some reason it didn't show when I searched for 3D in the forums | | | Last edited: by TrustNo1CSM |

| Posted: | | | | As always you are free to do locally as you please. You can lock everything in DVD Profiler. Take my collection for example. This DVD from the US right here
has the title Schütze Benjamin / Protocol - Alles tanzt nach meiner Pfeife and no edition. Why? Because I only use editions when I actually have two DVDs / Blu-rays with the same movie. Otherwise to me it's just noise. And the title is in German because I am German. Non of this finds its way into the online database though because it's my personal preference. The contribution rules are there to prevent flip/flop contributions where two or more parties try to get their personal preference into the online database. We can ask for a new rule but as long as the rule stands we have to abide by it because in the end it's Ken's database, not ours. Your database is what you do locally. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

just my 2 cents | | | Last edited: by TrustNo1CSM |

just my 2 cents I just did the same with a TV series - I put the season and disc # in the edition field for my database and I forgot to move them before I contributed. It happens. |

So how do you maintain a common, user built, online database when so many users have differing ideas of what should be in the database and their local profiles don't conform to the rules? Maybe DVDP should have a feature that takes a snapshot of a profile when we select it for contribution, and allows us to "fix" the snapshot before contributing so we don't have to worry about making changes to our actual profile record. --------------- |

I actually do that. I have a Contributions database which only contains a few profiles I'm going to contribute or are currently in the voting process. I back them up as flagged profiles from my master and re-import them there. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I think the way the editions rules have evolved, they are frequently useless for actually distinguishing editions. This is just one egregious example. |
