For example, Star Trek: The Next Generation has just two genres in the profile. Television and Science Fiction.
Personally I could see Action and Adventure fit as well. Some may also say Classic would apply.
But if I were to add Action, Adventure and Classic to the Genres only three would go through for contribution. So Television, Science Fiction and Action would go through, leaving off Adventure and Classic.
I know it's a little thing and frankly some could care less, but I really don't see a reason to limit it to just three genres.
I would really like to see Genres expand to all 5 slots for contributions. |

Off-topic: "Classic" should be removed as a genre, simply because (a) it really isn't a genre, (b) doesn't actually say anything about the disc's content, and (c) more than any other label, it's completely and utterly subjective. That aside, let's get back to the matter in hand. While I personally do feel that three genres are usually enough, I've never understood the strange decision to let us enter up to five fields, but then only accept the first three for contribution purposes. I just never got that. If Invelos wants us to enter up to three genres, no more, then give us three fields. If Invelos wants us to enter up to five genres, then by all means, give us five fields - but then accept them as part of our contributions as well. So yeah, I would support your suggestion. Except if we're going to fill them with nonsense as "Classic", that is. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

I would really like to see Genres expand to all 5 slots for contributions. Television, like Classic and a few others aren't genres. Some people declare stuff as Classic that's come out two years ago. The problem with genres can be observed on IMDb. The more genres you allow the more everything becomes every genre. What movies don't have at least a few minutes of Action? What Thriller isn't also Crime (and vice versa?). What Adventure is not an Action flick? But if I have 1000 movies and I filter for Action and the result set is 897 (because, you know, Forrest Gump ran through the jungle in the film!), what good does this genre do me? | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I think genre should be limited to one field, at the most.
But the reason it went from three to five was to allow us to enter our own custom genres without having to remove any of the "official" genres. Since the custom genres are private it made no sense to increase the online fields. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |
