I submitted an update to Indicator's recent release of The Odessa File. Now afterwards I started to wonder if I did the right thing.

It has three audio tracks, the regular soundtrack and two other tracks. In the menu they are listed as interviews. However, there is no way to list them as anything other than Commentary in the Audio section. So I did that.

But -  in Features only Interviews was checked, so I checked Commentary as well, since it seemed wrong to have Commentary in the Audio without having Commentary in Features. So, in effect the interviews are now listed as both Interviews and Commentary.

Right or wrong?

Well, it isn't great, but there is the possibility to list the audio track as "Other" as well. That caption isn't particularly helpful to me when I look at that profile a couple of years down the line, though, so I'm not a big fan - I personally only use "Other" for audio tracks languages that aren't available in DVD Profiler's drop-down menu. But that's just me.

I agree. If you choose to list the audio track as "Commentary", then I feel the "Commentary" checkbox should be ticked as well.

Mmm. It's not ideal. I would prefer to refer to it as one feature, not two.

All in all, I fear there are too many variables here to reach a consensus. We can choose between listing the audio track as either "Other" or "Commentary", we can choose to check either the "Commentary" and/or "Interviews" checkboxes, and then there's also the "Other Features" field that can be used to describe this. That's too many possibilities to get everyone on the same page.

As for me personally, I'm listing the audio track as "Commentary" and checking the "Commentary" checkbox, and that's it. I do not also tick the "Interviews" box for this - even though I wholeheartedly accept that they really are. But I'm watching them as I would any other audio commentary: the film is playing on-screen while someone talks about it - that's primarily a commentary to me. That it's in the form of an interview doesn't bother me. There are plenty of commentary tracks that feature a "moderator" of some kind, asking the participants questions - those could be considered interviews as well, but as long as they're listed on the cover as "audio commentary moderated by <name>", nobody thinks twice about how to list it - it's still a commentary track. To me, this is similar enough to consider such a track as a commentary for our purposes, not as an interview. But that's just me, others will have different methods, and without input from Invelos, it's hard to say what is "right or wrong" here...

Had a similar thread a few months ago.

If the release itself lists them as interview I would still choose Other as audio track and Interview in the features section.
Think different

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

Dang it! I had totally forgotten that thread. I must be getting old.
I agree with T!M about using "Other" just for unlisted languages.
There are also two "regular" interviews on that disc. So just checking Interviews means that we don't separate those from tracks that play with the feature.

There is something similar with the 88 Films release of Frightmare which has three commentaries and a feature length audio interview. I listed all four as commentary in the audio tracks but was able to check both the commentary and interview boxes because there are separate interviews on the main menu.

I'm not sure listing it as Other would be overly helpful to that profile simply because it is closer to a commentary than anything else, so that made the most sense to me because of how it plays and sounds.
