Note the DVD Profiler Facebook group is a fan group, I don't see either Ken or Gerri as members. The sole group admin hasn't posted in it since 2011 though he seems active on Facebook itself.

I know the admin, so I messaged him to suggest to add some more admins (So that if any admins were to leave Facebook, there's still more.)

Yeah, I'm there now. I'm on the DVD Profiler Facebook group too. I wish DVD Profiler had expanded many years ago like it said it would and have a Facebook Plugin to view other members' collections.

I stinks watching this site / app die. I have been here since they had the other name... inter....something or other. I gave up movie collectorz because this was a better app. Now, I do not even see updates to my movies anymore or updates to vote on. I think this place finally gave up the ghost. Fortunately, I am using a different app from Germany that is strong and thriving. I still collect physical media and having an app that stays updated is important to me. I got my money's worth out of DVDProfiler... I guess I made the mistake of thinking it would always be the best of the best. It's been a great ride, but I'm giving up on this. I won't be back. Good luck friends.

The BIG problem is,  of course, No one is buying DVDs/  Blue Rays anymore ..
and on top of that most of the movies we watch is on a streaming platform which  don't even see the light of day for DVD release - till possible many, , many,  many months later., &  if there is an interest, the streaming platforms may sell out the individual stock to a DVD provider such as Criterion/ HBO ( many Saints of Newark)  or  Twilight Time ( limited release of titles or even to Olive films.
The updated DVDS  we do see weekly or bi-weekly is an older stock UPC / title that 'our'  members are pulling out to revisit and revamp the art covers, the features/ audio or the crew/casting etc..
Thankyou BTW.

What I'm doing (on top of refreshing these older in data titles for voting )  is:
if I find in which  I watch a Netflix or prime or Disney plus, and other streaming platforms made for the streaming titles.  I'll fresh these dates I watched,  by 'manually typing''  in these newer titles for proper data,  ( thankyou IMDb)      and I do not upload it for simple reasons 'cause it's  NOT available to buy..

This way in 12 months from now I can see if and who I watched    '1883'  ( etc)  with..,

or just how many titles of Tom Hanks do I have?    ( with Greyhound it's  63! )

That title may be in my own base ( i.e. but only in My Title base .. courtesy of Invelos 4.0.0.0 build 1762 )  Apple has never released it to the video hardware- media.
This Microsoft-driven platform is a wonderful tool for cataloging.

Thanks, Ken for not taking your software down..

Well, that's not exactly true. If you'd follow any of the Facebook groups dedicated to boutique labels you would see people buying lots of blu-rays.

What we see is that blu-ray is more and more becoming a niche market. And surprisingly a lot of people are still buying DVDs. Also, a lot of people still prefer physical media, because you actually own them. Streaming titles come and go, and you can never be sure that a title is there when you feel like watching it.

The major streaming services focus on new titles, often producing those themselves. Some services carry a lot of low-budget B-movies that they have bought cheap because there is very little interest in them. But that leaves a lot of older movies that never turn up on streaming services. Film noir from the 40's and 50's, for example. And how many Italian giallo movies do you find?

So, physical media isn't dead quite yet.

what I meant or should have pointed out ,  was there is not a lot of NEW ( 2021 / 2022) movies being released on the format.. due to streaming ..

People may be buying a lot of older stock (including me ) from yesteryear that is drastically marked down.. but the $45 to $50 titles are not moving ..

The boutique labels I referred to are still publishing a lot of new releases of older films. In the UK you have Arrow Films, Powerhouse Films (Indicator), Eureka, 88 Films, 101 Films and others. In the US you have Criterion, Kino Lorber, Severin, Vinegar Syndrome, Scream Factory etc.

Take a gander at this weeks releases in the US. It's not nearly as much as it was in the heyday of physical media, but it's certainly not nothing.

I think the point is more that the market isn't growing.  People are still buying physical media, but it's the same people.  It's an issue we're seeing at our shop.  We still sell dvds and blu-rays, but we see a lot of the same people, week after week, coming in to browse/buy, and when people come in to sell it's always collections of mainstream films, almost always movies that came out from the 90's or later, and usually they say they're selling because "it's all on streaming now".

Most of our physical media buyers are 40+, usually looking for older films or niche/genre films, or buying TV seasons.  Of the new releases that we get (released on disc within the last 6 months), the only ones I'm reliably selling are the big blockbusters.  The only way we're selling the common releases in in grab bags, 20 DVDs in a brown paper bag for $10.  The bottom has fallen out of one previously solid reliably decent money maker - Disney films.  Disney+ has destroyed the secondary market for their films on DVD.  Pre-Disney+ films like The Lion King wouldn't stay on the shelf at $15, now they only move out of the $4 section.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
