Please to explain the importance and why it such a big deal. We have two methods tomget titles into the Db. If one doesn't work, use the other one, if neither works...now wehave a problem. I am trying to understand, based on YOUR comments, your focus on UPC.

Skip,

Maybe an example of a recent mainstream release will help. The June release of the Die Hard Collection came in 3 and 4 disc versions, different content (one contains an additional bonus DVD), different artwork on the front cover. The difference in the UPC is the "extra" characters the 4 disc version appends 50 to the UPC the 3 disc version appends 51. Since the 4 disc version was submitted first  and accepted, it is the one in the online database. Is there a method currently to get the 3 disc boxset in the main database?

Recently I have also seen studios append digits to the UPC for re-releases, and to distinguish slip covers with different artwork. (I believe the "Sin City" slip covers used this method, although I haven't verified it yet. The Jessica Alba slip cover has 0003 appended to the UPC.)  Another example is the Sweet Revenge Edition of John Tucker Must Die, the database version, UPC+00 has artwork similar to the keepcase cover, and version UPC+21 has completely different artwork.

That's interesting. My feature request is that DVDP could handle those extended UPCs, either with a 2-digit or 5-digit extension.

But now I am requesting a feature, so that DVDP could handle those  codebars with a 5-digit supplement and allow multiple profiles.

But those UPCs aren't the ones that belong to the DVD. They are the magazine's UPC and thus should not be connected in any way to a profile of the DVD.

From my experience DVDs that come with magazines and newspapers often do not always have a unique Disc ID as well the not having the unique 13 digit UPC, so disc-id is not a solution.

Very odd; I knew Disc ID could be duplicated in 2.4 but I thought with 3.0 onwards Disc ID was made unique... if that isn't the case I agree that we need a new feature to handle this

@Voltaire: In DVDP the DiscId is unique, but not in the real world. Out there two totally different DVDs can have the same DiscId

Dunno. Those UPCs are just on the back cover of the DVD.
Anyway, extended UPCs are not only found in magazine DVDS. See the examples by greyghost.
