Please don't argue "What's the point" when it comes to the database rules. Remember that we have to type down spelling mistakes verbatim per the same overview rule. But if there actually is an overview on the season boxset and the children are not individually packaged you cannot fall back to the "standard rule" "If there's no overview, write a small one of your own" because there actually IS an overview, you (general you) just don't like it. As to the case where the individual case does not contain an overview (what else is there on the cover then) I honestly don't know how the "use the standard rules" is to be interpreted in this case. The standard rules for TV show seasons or the global standard rules? I just don't know. But for clarification puposes I'd like to see the back cover of the season set and the individual packaging of the disputed profile. | Posted: | | | | I voted yes. There's no harm in including overviews in child profiles. The rules are vague enough that I think they can be included. I agree with Pete's interpretations of the rules.
As for self-written vs. copied-from-official-website overviews, I don't see a huge problem with copying them. The information is put up for public dissemination free of charge. Nobody's really making any money over summaries, are they? Do people copyright summaries? Is it any more wrong than uploading cover scans which include copyrighted artwork? | | | My DVD/Blu-ray Collection My Letterboxd Page | | | Last edited: by Rizor |

Karsten - thank you - this is what the point I was trying to get across. | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

| Posted: | | | | I only rarely use child profiles for tv series so personally I'm not affected but I see no harm in including an overview if there is none. The TV series rule is a clarification, not a substitute for the standard rules. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | The problem with rules there almost always seem to be exceptions, thus the old ax that rules are made to be broken.
I would like to see rules totally separate the TV from the the so-called standard movie profile at least when referencing an item or cell n the default profile. I think it would make it much easier to find answers to the various problems in building profiles. So much of the data in a TV child profile is redundant and available in the parent profile and doesn't change during a series. And resolve and place answers to future problems and changes in the media.
Also the rules should be formatted as outline, not in narrative form, I sometimes think I'm reading a novel or a maybe a fairytale. This I think would make it easier to find and reference a rule. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. | Posted: | | | | @Srehtims: AS far as I can tell, the problem of redundancy of information in TV child profiles is caused by the fact that these profiles are optional (as opposed to e.g. child profiles in movie box sets). |

| Posted: | | | | Right and most of us that uses the child profiles deletes the info from the parent profile... making the parent profile for the TV series look basically like the parent profile of a box set. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I will let the voters and screener decide the outcome of these types of contributions.
The issue is not clear cut to me so I have decided to withdraw my "no" vote and change it to "neutral".
Thank you for your input. | | | Last edited: by Kathy |
