I have a suggestion regarding SRP.

Keep the SRP, but add the following.

1. Call SRP "Original SRP"
2. Add new SRP Entry called "Current SRP"

So for every DVD you would have the Original SRP for when the DVD was first released, and then it would also have what the DVD's current SRP is.

This would help cover all of the DVD's that are lowered in SRP over their release period.

Of course the UPC# has to be the same and documentation has to be provided to prove a current SRP.

Does anybody think this would be a good idea or not?

In theory I like it, Cubby. It could be useful. In practice, update hell, surely!

No way, Jose.  No way do I want to have to wade through 1,500 profile updates with a lousy SRP change of 2 cents .

I'm afraid it's a no from me as well.

A forever changing field will result in endless insignificant updates.

I could only support something like this with Documentation and as Achim says a constantly changing field? Yikes. But while more people are using documnetation, there are still too many who don't and are drawing yes votes anyway. So ON aCHIM'S BASIS i HAVE TO SAY no!!!!!! TOO

I would have to agree with the majority here... even though it would be good information to have (like if you need to replace a disc... you can see what the current SRP is) I think it would be much more trouble then it is worth.

No, it's already a PITA to research the original SRP with some older titles (especially those DVDs released before the EURO introduction in Germany).

There are several titles that changed their SRP after the currency change and since then dropped significantly several times.

How many entries would you want to have in this fiels? Just one I suppose. So, if I find this DVD at a bargain bin in a store during a "Going-out-of-business" sale, I can enter the 2,99 SRP although the DVD usually sells for 9,99? I don't think so.

There would never be any agreement about what the new (current) SRP was..

Since this topic is up It is time for me to ask the all important question I've always wondered..

Who determines what SRP is??  Walmart? Columbia House?  Tower records.?
When a DVD is released should I go the manuufacturer's site to look up what they are willing to sell you the DVD for via the internet?

or check the bricks and mortar store for their prices??

Idealy it would be a press release, though they are not always available. You will see variations in the various stores, based upon their policies, of pennies, nothing substantial. So it would be first in.

For example Warner may give a title an SRP of 28.99, without any kind of press release
Depending on their policies (which I do not know) you might see
Best Buy 28.97
Wal-Mart 28.92
DVDEmpire 28.95
DVDPlanet 28.94

These are for all intents and purposes the same prices so the question is basically moot.

Plus, standard practice at WalMart is to mark $24.99 stuff down to $19.97 for the regular shelf price, and often down to $16-$17 (or lower) for the first week it goes on sale.  Best Buy does similar, and so does Amazon.  Virtually impossible to track all that stuff.

Shelf price is different from SRP (aka MSRP).

The word would be 'suggested'  and Walmart and others would be marking down the product from suggested  to their in-store one day/week only doorcrasher promotion.
