Have you run the Name Variants plugin or used the Credit Lookup tool?  The database has many errors already. It's really quite shocking to see the depths of bad data that has to be fixed still...after 2.5 years of rules.

What has this to do with the rules, James ? Most of these entries are still from the time before we had rules and the rest of the bad entries are from users who don't care if there are rules in the first place.

If have said this for years and will continue to do so: All these problems could easily be fixed if we had cast and crew entries per movie, not per DVD release. All profiles for a movie should simply link to the same set of credits. Then creating a profile would be much less work, cast and crew data would almost always be correct and crosslinking would really make sense.

As to Mark's example...I have no problem with an exception that allows for a 'title' where initials, symbols or absolutely nothing is printed on the cover.

Sounds reasonable, but I am sure there will be some people unhappy with that as well, and endless discussions on what the exceptions should be and how to implement them.

I still think the best solution would be having a Cover Title field and a Screen Title field, and just enter what is there on the Cover and on the Screen.

That would work too. Thats maybe easier than rulechange. just add the fields and revrite the rules to fit both fields.

This I cabn agree with, Enry. Instead of creating exceptions to the Rules and complicating things, a  new foeld to accomodate the data is a FAR better choice. We have users now even pretending that Polls are Rules.

Ask me if I give a rat's what you think. You need to modify YOUR behavior as it is ALWAYS unacceptable.

You are being rude. Please modify your behaviour as many people in this forum find it unacceptable.

Thank you for your cooperation.

PS: Can someone please point me to the poll where everyone agreed that Skip's opinion represents every member of this forum?

Neither can I, Hal, I grow tired of simply defending myself from unnecessary, inflammatory attacks from the likes of you and Johnd.

Don't blame me, Kathy. It's not my fault. Some around here just absolutely refuse to treat people with even a modicum of decency.

Hal, please allow me to remind you of the Golden Rule. Were it not for a handful of users such as yourself, Hal this new system would be totally unnecessary.

I was responding to a user who said that in the absence of rules, the database would become full of errors. I was just pointing out that the database is already full of errors in spite of the existence of the rules. That's not a reason to have no rules, however.

I completely agree. This would help a lot.

This is a good solution as well BUT, the add by title feature would need the ability to search both fields for this to be of any use.

That could be relatively easily dealt with, Unicus.

Well I do know (forget where I read it but..) Ken did mention the possibilities of adding new Title fields as well as making the title search  search both the title field and the Original title field. So I am sure it is all possible. (maybe it was in the rules forum?)

I make a simple statement that I can't wait for the "Reputation System" to be implemented and am immediately attacked!

Fascinating!

Hal:

If you are going to attempt to claim that was not an attack on your part, well perhaps I could find a word for that, but it is not something I would say.
