After contributing coverscans for "Letters from Iwo Jima" Some of the coments was that I should remove the rounded corners and that it was common to do so...

After that, I also startet to delete the Fingerholes at the midle of some boxsets, and not that long ago I got a comment on this behavior that the coverscans should be as they are in reallife.

Now I need some guidens to what to do, or what is common?
(Removing the grips can take some time, as some time it contains parts of pictures, and if it is not wanted I quit it.)

Sorry if this has been discussed several times before...

Looking back at the rules... they don't seem to touch on this... so I can only give you my opinion. But in my opinion I think it should be exactly as the case is.

I have to agree with Pete on this.  The scan should match the actual cover.

EDIT:
Sorry misread the title
Comment deleted by myself
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

MOST covers you will find have been squared off for aesthetic reasons, its a convention which started YEARS ago.

I agree, the cover scans should look as close to the original as possible.

Squaring off the corners is common practice and you shouldn't get a no vote if you take them out but having a hole in the middle of the case (never seen those!) should probably be left intact.  A corner is maybe 30 pixels, a big hole in the middle is something different.

I assume the "hole" in question are the little notches along the middle of the edge of the box where you would grip/extract the inner box.

I generally scan the boxset cover with the content inside (prevents the scanner top from crushing/warping the case during scanning).  Whatever part of the inner box you see showing thru is what you get.

My first scans were done as-is (no squaring of corners) but i regularly got comments that expressed irritation with rounded corners so i started squaring them.  Graphic cloning tools make this quite seamless and simple.  I look at like removing dust motes and other artifacts not part of the cover itself.

I spend waaaaay too much time with my 300 dpi cover scans, zoomed in even, cleaning up dust and the like.

I myself like the scans to appear as close to the original as I possibly can if I have to retoch them (for example: a non-reflective non-identical keep case cover inside a reflective slip case cover), but I never try to create a better image by removing round corners or fingerholes. And nobody should, because if we did we could also start to correct mistakes in overviews, running times, aspect ratios etc. and we don't want that to happen. Now, would we?

Same here.

FWIW I don't object about squaring off the corners but I would No vote a scan that removed the grip holes as 1) it's not like the original and 2) it may easily be mistaken for a scan of the inner case rather than the slip which is not permitted

I have to agree to You and Martin. There is no need for retouching scans. IMHO the purpose of a coverscan is to be authentic and not to be nice!

My issue with rounded corners is that I always notice that one side is rounded while the other side isn't.

Then again, I would notice a dead pixel at 0x0 too!

I have always seen on the fingergrips to destroy the coverart, it always seem to me that the grips came in on a later time in the prosess.

But I see the majority pointing the other way,  hm.. local again from now on..

I am one who likes to square off the corners. I take the insert out of the Keep Case and scan it and touch up the corners to make the scan look nice. I personally do not like to see rounded corners on two ends ... just does not look nice to me.

When I scan a Snapper case ... I take the cover apart and scan it. You end up with all the little notches that hold it in the plastic. I also PhotoChop them out. I, for one, hate seeing people who scan these DVDs in the Snapper case. Looks tacky.
