so you don't want to use any common sense then? Feel free to have a totally blank title in your collection - but the rest of us will probably have something like err. Batman.. I am in favour of the "Batman" option. And I even think that the spine might be abetter place to start looking for the title than the front cover (you're less likely to need to parse out possessives and the like, for one thing), but many heated arguments have been had over people claiming that common sense should be allowed to trump the rules. So I just wanted to know where the community stood on this one. |

I am amused. If you are looking to cause a problem, an exception can ALWAYS be found. This movie holds no interest for me, personally, so I don't own it, but I do see that there is no image of the back cover so we can see what the credit block might say. The Rules will NEVER be able to cover each and every base, there will always be some sort of an exception, some will be easier than others to sort out, but they can all be sorted out. Once an answer is found for this one, then somebody will discover another one, and so on. I thought your original post, while a bit odd, seemed geared in the direction of figuringit out, your second post makes me think differently.

Skip The back cover of my copy looks like this:  The credit block is too small to make out, and I'm not at home to check the actual box, but the various quotes use the Pi symbol rather than the word "Pi", so I would not be surprised whichever way that goes. However, given that DVDPro can't handle non-Latin characters, there is really no question with this one. It's the mathematical symbol rather than the Greek letter, and so the only possible transliteration is "Pi". If it was the Greek letter, though, an argument could be made that it should be "P". |

Skip I agree the rules were never meant to cover every possible situation, yet some people insist on treating them as they would with ridiculous results. This one is no different. As for my copy of Pi, it has the symbol in the copyright on the back also. Which of course makes no difference if you take the rule literaly to mean that we must use the front cover and front cover only. | | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Skip While I'd also list this as "Pi", I do feel it's important to point out that for DVD Profiler purposes, it's completely irrelevant under what title a movie is registered at the US Copyright Office. |
